It is a plug in on the AC side, and I replaced a failed direct wired unit so I had to wire a receptacle. The DC side is two wire allowing for multiple sequential light units. I wired in five under counter lights. I don't think it is a do - it - yourself item for anyone without some intermediate knowledge of electric equipment.
