Looks the same as the 400+ item.
Looks good and has equally as good lighting as their more expensive units (that gives me more options than I need). A great buy! This item has a much newer an more functional cord strain relief, so it should last longer.

Be a scientist!
Dino-Lite Digital Microscope (USB2.0) 10x~200x MagnificationI order this product after returning a less expensive one that came with a mini-CD that won't work with Macs, and no opportunity to download driver from Mfg.If you enjoyed microscopes as a child, but endured the frustration of getting focus and light exactly right--this is for you. My grandchildren can hold the device, the LED lights are integral, and the focus adjusting is a one-handed affair. The images pop up in real time on the screen for all to see, and can be saved as robust PNG images (crisper than JPEG but just as easy to move around). We capture dead things, live things, you name it. Photos, videos, time-lapse. Expensive, but a never tiring tool to investigate anything. This was a great departure from the usual electronic gift, and has spawned interest from diamonds to worms!

great microscope
great portable microscope. the only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it doesn't include measurement tools when used with the dinolite application.

child-friendly microscope
I plan to use this in preschool classrooms where by connecting Dino-Lite to a laptop everyone will be able to see at once the marvels of everyday objects magnified. Young children cannot successfully use typical microscopes, and waiting for a turn to look through a lens is also not a preschooler's forte. I have observed its use in another preschool. After using Dino-Lite the children then drew the tiny mites they had observed on water lettuce in their indoor water feature. A great tool to awaken further curiosity about things to be seen LARGE.

Great gadget.
I got this product for Christmas and I love it. It's lots of fun and very interesting. to use. It makes salt granules look like big ice cubes and my finger prints look like valleys in the desert. Now I can be my own Doctor,(Kidding). I can definitely see where this item can be a very useful tool for Doctors and Dermatologists. It's fantastic and your imagination is the limit. Go buy one, examine the tiny world that lives on leaves and in your backyard. Extremely versatile too.

Works brilliantly
Solidly built, and extremely easy to use. I downloaded and installed the software from the dino-lite website on my windows 10 laptop, plugged in the dino-lite and it started displaying images instantly. The focus/magnification control works well. With a slight adjustment of the focus control bright clear images were displayed on the laptop. The 640 x 480 resolution is plenty of pixels. Very happy with this little device. Highly recommended.

It basically has the power and resolution of a good dissecting scope for a little over 100 dollars
If you are a biology teacher this simple gadget is a MUST. It allows you to bring material to class and project the microscope's view directly onto the screen. You can see flowers and leaves, bacterial colonies in a Petri dish, moving soil fauna, insects, you name it. You can film video or take still images. Most importantly, it is a welcome novelty over the ever-more-boring Power-Point slides. It basically has the power and resolution of a good dissecting scope for a little over 100 dollars. I love it!
