Fix me from the trance I'm in after reading this!
Sixteen year old Tess lives an idyllic life on a Montana ranch with her grandfather until he starts showing signs of dementia. Her parents passed away when she was very young and she was left abandoned by her sister - seventeen years her senior - a high-powered-something-or-other in Washington D.C. Until everything falls apart. A run-in with a bullying teacher brings Tess' grandfather's precarious mental sitaution to light. Tess' sister, Ivy, comes to wisk Tess away to Washington D.C. to a private school and a whole new world of political intrigue and cover-ups.This book was excellent. Very fast paced and very well written. I started it at about 10:30 last night, thinking I probably wasn't going to enjoy it very much; it's not the usual YA romance that I typically adore. But I was surprised when I looked up at the clock to see it was 1:30 AM and I was over halfway through the book. It's 8:45 PM and I've finished the book, even after working for 8 1/2 hours today and not reading during lunch. Great book! I can't wait to read the next one!

A mixture of Scandal and Gossip girl with the mood of...
...How to get away with murder. This was purely a young adult book. No cursing, no mature content, teens from 12/13 should be alright with reading. Who am I kidding? Your teens will love it. I would have loved it as teen, would have read this fives times. I'm no teen anymore but I still enjoyed it. I just felt I needed some more romance in it, that's all.Otherwise, I liked the characters, Tess, Ivy, Adam and Bodie were perfect.Ivy is a very powerful character, as an adult I think I would have enjoyed this story more if she was the protagonist, not Tess. I would love to read how she got to that place, what she's done to get there and how he handled everything. It's a super exciting job.Tess is a litrle too childish, not for her age, but for her character. I felt like her actions didn't match her thinking.Adam is lovely, I would have love to read more about him and Ivy.Well, the others were just there. Mostly. They didn't really have a character, I couldn't even attach a face to them. Maybe Ashton, he was a super cute Alex Pettyfier

Grand theft anyone?
This book was so different than what I expected. The main character was calm, compassionate, and devious. She cared about others and wasn't afraid to stand up for them. She was able to remain collected during any situation. She knew a lot about castrating bulls and enjoyed discussing it with bullies. She was a gem of a person and I wish I could be more like her. This book has intrigue and humour, and lots of it! The second book is more of the same, I hope there's a third. Enjoy!!!

Jennifer Barnes - one off the best genre writers around - hits another one out of the park
It's easy, so the canard goes, to write quality genre fiction. It's a formula, they say. Whether it's sci-fi or YA or romance or mystery or whatever - you just follow the recipe and you're fine. But when you run into someone who isn't merely good, but a master of the form, you realize that "formula" is just polite language for "mediocre." And make no mistake, Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a master of YA. She is all about entertaining the pants off of the audience while playing with every trope you expect, but not necessarily in the way you expect it. Her "realistic" series ("The Naturals," "The Squad" and now "The Fixer") are breezy, absorbing and fly off the page with "plucky" heroines who face murderous opponents in wacky scenarios out of pop culture nightmares. In short, whether you're 15 or 50, she's a hoot and a half, and well worth your time when you're in the mood for extremely light entertainment executed to perfection.

YA Political Thriller
This was a great book that meshed YA mystery and political thriller tropes really well, with a cast of fantastic characters and a fascinatingly convoluted mystery to pick apart, but all I could think at the end of the book was, “Dang, after all that, Tess is still going back to school on Monday??? Take a vacation, girl. Tell your sister to call you in sick. You don’t have to go to class!”In other words, I was deeply involved. I’m definitely picking up the sequel.

One of the best books I've read in a long time
I enjoy all kinds of books in all different genres. I believe that this book is rated as a young adult book , however I have to tell you that as a 59-year-old adult I enjoyed this book . I grew up in Texas politics so I am well aware of what a fixture can do . They didn't awesome job portraying a lot backroom maneuvering that is present in all politics . There was no romance whatsoever but it was a fine story with many twists and turns and I was never sure where it was going or how it was going to end until it did so. Do yourself a favor and buy this book .

The Synopis is My Favorite Part.
The synopsis drew me in. But I am oceans away from being the audience for this type of book (and I read the sequel just to be sure)This book and the sequel are beyond unrealistic. A high schooler would be rolling their eyes at the end of the first chapter. The dialogue never reaches the depth of loyalty, friendship, and love the author seemingly wants to build between the characters. It is repetitive and shallow. As I said, I liked the synopsis. I gave it three stars because I admire the author for trying, and I blame her editors for not helping her try harder.
