Klipsch G-42 Passive Soundbar

This center channel improved my surround sound set up by miles and miles and miles....I had a center channel and two bookshelf speakers up front, all made by Polk Audio and they were at the top of Polk Audio's line when I purchased them. Since they were a few years old I decided to upgrade. (Ok, my daughter poked the tweeters out and hence I was compelled to upgrade.)Now, I've been a fan of Klipsch for years and purchased several of their speaker systems, but my home audio surround sound didn't incorporate any of Klipsch's products. I regret that now. I've been missing out.This center channel alone in the front, handling front right and front left sound as well as center channel duty, dramatically transformed the sound I'm getting out of my Denon AVR-3802. Along with my Jamo sub woofer, this Klipsch G-42, which looks sleek, is sturdy, well built, and even has brackets that protect tweeters from menacing two-year olds, basically brought my surround system practically current. Its crisp, has good staging and delivers perfect mids and highs.Of course, audiophiles will tell you that any center channel that does triple duty (center, front right, and front left) must be joke. They are sorely mistaken. I am not the proud owner of a $100,000+ surround sound system, but that doesn't make my ability to appreciate a good speaker inferior to those with a significantly greater purchasing power. This center channel is excellent, for movies and music, and it went perfectly well with my Jamo Sub and Denon receiver, far better than I anticipated given that my sub and receiver are 10 years old.Do I dream of owning Klipsch Palladium speakers? Yes! I also dream of listening to my Klipsch G-42 when I get home from work!

Sound is excellent, but stereo separation is poor.I probably should have known that stereo separation requires physical separation and that soundbars notwithstanding their popularity cannot achieve good separation through audio tricks. This one certainly didn't so I returned it in exchange for three Klipsch G-12's, which I think contain the same speakers as the soundbar, but allow the physical separation you need for good stereo or Dolby surround.

While watching a movie I noticed a burning electrical smell and tracked it down to the Klipsch G-42 soundbar. By testing individual channels it was clear that the right woofer had partially failed. The sound quality was distorted at higher volume levels. I reduced the input level to that channel, which eliminated the distortion, but the problem has worsened over time and is now distorted even at low volume settings. The woofer does not appear to be replaceable.

I like having a good sound system for movies and music, but was tired of the clutter associated with having 7 speakers and a subwoofer. The powered soundbars have never impressed me, and I think Klipsch is a very solid brand.I picked up a small Marantz receiver, the Klipsch G-42, and a Klipsch powered subwoofer (my house has built in surround speakers).I was expecting a compromised listening experience, and was pleasantly surprised with the G-42. Very immersive, and the Passover to the subwoofer works better than my old system (which was far more expensive). I watched Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter at about 85% volume, and it felt like a live show. Audio quality was really impressive.I recommend this without reservation. I’ve already ordered a 2nd one for the upstairs game room.

I am far from an audiophile, but I do love good sound. Up until I purchased this, I used a cheap Yamaha sound bar we purchased from Costco. It seemed adequate while I used it.I recently decided to upgrade our main TV and so I figured I might as well upgrade the sound as well. We rent with neighbors on the other side of the walls, so we cannot really have a super large sound system. So I bought this G-42 and a Yamaha receiver. The sound coming from this G-42 is wonderful to my ears. I also purchased a Klipsch 308 sub which for the size of my living area, it works perfectly.I am sure there are better sound bars than this G-42 and real separate speakers I am sure would be even better, but for my use, this is exactly what I was looking for, or should I say "hearing" for. :)

Overall, I am happy with the G-42 soundbar. I had very few reservations about this purchase based on the reviews of others. The soundbar definitely needs to be paired with a powered sub. The soundbar and sub really shine with movies and music. The G-42 is extremely clear on highs and mids which is great for speaking parts. The sub definitely fills in the lower gaps where the bass is needed. Very high quality build from Klipsch.

I looked around quite a bit before deciding on this Klipsch sound bar. I would say that it is a perfect balance between size and price and produces a really clear sound with a wide sound field. Unless you are in a really small room or constrained space I think a subwoofer is pretty much required for these systems. I went with the Yamaha that I can out right in the tv cabinet with forward porting and it is an awesome combination. Definitely consider this sound bar!

I have been a fan of Klipsch for almost 20 years now and I am never disappointed. I just keep adding and refreshing components as I build my system out. My primary zone is a 25'X25' great room powered by a Denon 4311CI in Dolby 7.2 Surround and the Klipsch speaker system fills the room with magnificent sound. I am retiring a KV2 Center channel speaker and put in the G-42. Very happy with the results!
