great for people with wood floors and dogs/cats!
Bought this for a family member who has a rental apartment with wood floors and 2 cats. It worked wonders when I used it there will pet-sitting for said family member. Bissell never disappoints with a vacuum that has amazing suction. I own 2 of their ZING model vacs, and this is definitely a notch above the $50-75 ZING. The floor extension tools are mostly metal, and it really sucks up all dust and hair. I find it's quieter than most other vacs, including the ZING. I didn't try to dump the dust cartridge....My only complaint is that the fuzzy strips on the floor extension 'head' started to peel off the first day of use. I had to use some super glue to make sure they didn't get sucked into the vac itself. Also, the cord is just too short. If it were 10-20 ft. longer that would do wonders for users.....

Finally, a really good vac for hardwood floors.
This is an amazingly good vac. It is small, lightweight and has lots of suction. Comes with 2 heads. One is for hardwood floors and carpets (via on-head switch). The other is for hardwood floors and tile: It has an air driven beater bar that really does an incredible job picking up grit and dust. Easy to empty, though small cup for catching dirt.Caution: When emptying cup, be careful to inspect for dust bunnies clogging the air channels. They can significantly reduce the suction and make the 2nd head (see above) inoperable.I'm really impressed by this machine.

Small and almost mighty (before it gets tired)
This is a pretty good vacuum. It is comparatively quiet, lightweight and easy to drag around the house. The attachments are useful and you can clip them into a holder on the handle (although you do have to choose which "main" attachment you want to use), and the telescoping metal tube on the end of the hose is useful. We live in a Manhattan apartment with wood floors and it's great for us. If you have a much larger space I'm not sure I would recommend it, because:- Canister fills up fairly quickly- Cord is not that long- Suction is good but not awesome; unless you're super thorough and vacuum every square inch of floor, you will find bits of dust and detritus that you missed- Does a passable job cleaning the sofa, but not a great jobIt also puts out a lot of heat, but I think a lot of vacuums do. I would definitely buy it again, but could improve a few things - I guess fixing them would probably require a slightly bigger vacuum (longer cord, bigger canister, stronger suction), so it's probably a conscientious design trade off.EDIT: After a year and a half, this vacuum has lost a fair amount of suction. It's still OK for doing corners and stuff, but needs to be fixed to be useful for general vacuuming as the main attachment with the brush doesn't really spin any more (the brush's spin is dependent on suction). I have replaced all the filters, purchased a new attachment, taken it apart down to the motor and there is nothing visibly wrong with the unit. It just didn't age well. I suspect this would be a common problem. It's interesting - I am not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, a vacuum should last more than 18 months. On the other hand, it is pretty cheap and was used 2-3 times a week for a year and a half before starting to fail. I wish there was a way to repair it or tune it up for twenty bucks or something. One more edit: This really just happened, believe it or not. After a couple months of dealing with the bad suction, I decided that I was going to write Bissell an email and troubleshoot that way. So I did. Not 10 minutes later, I plugged the vacuum in for another round of feeble suckage, and BLAM the thing went back to full power. How's that for customer service? They didn't even reply, just used their mental beams of service to fix the vacuum. Back up to 4 stars from 3.

great vacuum!
I have cats and they are constantly dropping dust bunnies in every room. I have been using an upright with a hose and it is very annoying - I only use the hose and the vacuum keeps falling over. So I wanted a canister vacuum. The only place to find one was on Amazon. it came a week ago and works GREAT! Easy to handle, great suction, efficient. So this week I ordered a second one!

TERRIBLE vacuum cleaner.
This vacuum cleaner has quickly become useless. There is very little suction, including after ensuring that the canister is clean, and that there are no blockages within the floor unit and in the hose line. There are brushes in the floor unit that are supposed to rotate with the suction. But because there is so little suction, they do not rotate, and the vacuum cleaner picks up next to nothing. This was a colossal waste of money, and I would urge everyone to look at other products.

Pretty good
Just got this and used it twice. I love that it's super lightweight. I have the stain for carpeting and it's so heavy compared to this one. The suction is awesome and the option to use less suction is nice too.I do wish the cord was longer. I found myself unplugging it in one room bc the cord is not very long. The dirt container is a bit small but that's not a huge problem.I did notice both times I've used it, there is a slight burning smell. Nothing is burning but after about 5 minutes there's a smell. I hope it's nothing.

Love it!
Very efficient, the suction is great. It is light enough so I can carry it while vacuuming the stairs and it is not too loud.I use it on my laminate and tiles and I love it.I had to return the first one I bought because it just stopped working after 5 minutes, but since I received my new one, it has been working perfectly!
