3-year-old loves it!
My granddaughter loved this library book and was sad when we had to return it. She was so excited when I took it out of the Amazon box and told her she could keep it. Bad dog, Tom!

This is my son's favorite book right now
This is my son's favorite book right now. He reads it over and over and is so proud that he can read it himself. I have bought other copies of this book to use with students and it's always a hit. It is easy to read but can elicit a lot of discussion. After falling in love with this little book, we have searched for other David McPhail books to enjoy. Bad Dog remains my son's favorite!

Book was disgusting!
This book arrived in disgusting condition. The back of the book was like something was spilled on it. It was gooey and gummy and so gross!

David McPhail - Emergent Reader
David McPhail never "phails" to please when it comes to his books. The illustrations, in his traditional style using pen and ink and watercolors, are warm and pleasing to the eye. The picture clues provide the young reader clues to help them predict the text while reading. The use of speech bubbles shows this book is on a little higher level than the previous titles reviewed.Tom is a naughty dog and has been banished from the house because of his many bad deeds. However he redeems himself when the family cat is lost and Tom is the only one who can locate the other four legged family memeber. Themes associated with this title include the following: animals, easy readers, and humor. This title is recommended for first grade, or children between the ages of 4 - 8. It is leveled at C based on the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading Level and focuses on reading standards for Literature and Foundational Skills in the English Language Arts Common Core Standards for kindergarten through second grade.

Terrible message for kids
My son was given this book to read for school. After a few pages, he was very upset and came to me asking why everyone was being so mean to the dog. After reading the book with him, I was kind of appalled that this was a kids book. There are five pages of the characters saying "bad dog" for the dog either doing normal dog things, or not being properly trained. It ends (spoiler alert I guess?) With them saying they love the dog whether it's good or bad, which is kind of awful given how they were treating him while dodging their responsibility. Not a good example for kids and I do not recommend it.

Blamed the dog for having flees, horrible people.
I did not like the family blaming the dog for everything, how about training the doggie and give him a bath /flea collar , they don’t take responsibility for anything they just blame the poor dog , disgusting, horrible book.
