Lovingly packed with Care
I recently adopted an older chicken from my neighbor. I bought this book, first for the beautiful watercolor pages and second for the general chicken information. It was a library book that was in wonderful shape. I'm so pleased with the care that HONEST DISCOUNT (Jean L) took with the shipping of this book to me! There are good people who still care about their things! I will definitely shop with them again!

Pretty good but leaves out some important facts
I purchased this book to go along with a chicken life cycle home school study for my five year old. We have chickens and she has helped raise the chicks for the past two years. We decided to let her hatch her own this year instead of buying chicks so I wanted to go a little more detailed in "where chicks come from". Overall this is a very good, basic introduction to the chicken life cycle. I feel it leaves some important parts out such as: 1- not listing saddle feathers on the rooster diagram. 2- it details where eggs start but leaves out labeling where they come out of the hen (cloaca or vent) and also fails to mention the protective coating called bloom that seals and protects the egg. 3- it also fails to mention that unwashed eggs can be stored at room temperature when it talks about gathering eggs (this part upset my daughter because that's how we store and use our fresh eggs on our small farm).Overall this book provides some great basic knowledge and since I am familiar with chickens I was easily able to provide the missing information for my daughter but just something to keep in mind.

Great book and Information
Such a good book with so much great I formation about chickens from egg to adult. I have bought 2 because I gave one away. Really nice illustrations and diagrams. I wound say advanced for reading level because I read it to my students. I didn’t expect 1st graders to read it on their own.

Awesome book for younger children!
Bought this for my granddaughter as she has chickens. I figured this would help her understand where chicks come from. I would recommend this book for younger children to learn where chicks come from.
