absolutely NOT waterproof - do NOT use outdoors!!!
I bought this part #14216 along with the Sigma #14250 outlet box, both of which say "all weather" right on the label. I was trying to set a kind of light-switch that switches on & off, but for outdoors so you can control, say, an outdoor speaker. Installation was a breeze, but that's where the good things ended. This product wasn't even close to being waterproof, or even water-resistant. I installed this on my backyard deck, and even though it was partially hooded by the railing and covered on 2 sides (protecting it from heavy rain), water would CONSTNATLY leak into the box, shorting out the wires, rusting everything, and corroding all the metal inside. It didn't even last one season! I did follow the instructions to the letter, installed it with that black spongy material in between the metal plates, to act as a barrier to rain. But still, every time I'd tilt the unit, a bunch of water would run out the hole in the bottom of the box. I finally gave up and took it down, and will just hook up my outdoor speakers directly without this lame "on & off switch" nonsense that advertises itself as "all-weather" but apparently that does NOT include rain! Not sure if the culprit was this part #14216 (the light switch) or the outlet box (part #14250) but they're both Sigma brand, and I am disgusted and appalled at this company and the lousy quality of their products. I was going to call their toll-free # but figured what's the point? If anyone from Sigma is reading this by chance, I'd be glad to mail back everything in a postage-paid box, so you can at least examine this to see where your manufacturing process went wrong. Maybe this is a bad batch?
