Honeywell also makes a 'slimline' version of this sensor that's much narrower--but also much more expensive! The sensor is easy to maintain--every couple of years (when a battery dies), just push in the tab on the bottom with your fingernail and pop off the front cover (your alarm system will start beeping at this point, since you're 'tampering' with the transmitter... ignore it and reset it when you're done). Pop out the old battery, put in a new one, then replace the cover. Nothing to it. ** Function and Battery Life ** These sensors use two Loops for sensing door/window open and close states: Loop 2 (most common) is used with a magnetic reed switch (magnet must be within an inch or so of the reed switch sensor), and Loop 4 lets you use a wired contact (installation is more difficult, and probably uncommon). As long as you have a flat surface on the door and on your door casing or wall within an inch or so of each other, you can just mount the magnet to the door, and the transmitter to the wall/door trim, and you're done! I installed my Honeywell L5100PK - LYNX Touch security system a few months ago, and haven't yet had a battery die. A few other people I know have a similar Lynx system, and nobody seems to have any complaints about battery life. ** Recommendation ** Buy enough of these to cover every entry/exit in your house, and you're set!
