A Birder's Guide to Louisiana (ABA Birdfinding Guides)

An essential for Louisiana birders! Has a checklist of birds you can keep as you see birds in your journey. It's pricey but worth every penny! The write ups about locations is clear, concise, and give extra little tid bits of information that are helpful (whether a place may be desolate, no restroom, etc). Get this as a gift for your birder. My only suggestion with the book is that it should have included Waddell Wildlife Refuge and Enforcement Training Center, I have enjoyed some great birds there: Eastern Towhee, Eastern Bluebird, Yellow-throated warbler, etc.

If you live in Louisiana, or are visiting, and you want to do some great bird watching, this is a must have guide. The guide is divided up into regions with clear directions to various bird watching areas. The guide provides a description of the areas, how to get there, and what and where to see at different times of the year. I'm a new birder who live in lower Louisiana and I find this guide indispensable.

My initial thumbing through the book made me think, "Where are the color pictures?", but as I began reading I realized they are telling us n black and white how to get to good birding spots and EVERYTHING to expect once we get there. Excellent layout and charts are included.For the price of this book, it should have a more useful and rugged binding for field use.

I am a veteran "snake trailer" and backwoods birder - this book offers the best sites from the best birders in Louisiana. Many places that I have driven by for years are described in detail. This is a real resource that will allow a birder new to Louisiana immediate access to the most productive sites.

Excellent, of course. The better the birding in the state the harder it is to write a guide. But they accomplished a monumental task! You do not want to bird Louisiana without this guide, even if you have been birding there your whole life!

I purchased this book because we are planning a trip to Louisiana for birding next February. I have found it to be an excellent resource for determining the best locations for the birds that we really would like to see while there. Format is very usable and overall very helpful!

Provides a good oversight of places and expected birds of La. Directions are easy to follow and allow you to tailor your birding expectations.

Lowry's book on LA birds is so valuable and this guide is a super compliment to his classic book on birds. I look forward to birding in LA and the locations are awesome along with maps. Thank you for a job well done.
