I used to give my dog a rawhide chew after the evening meal, but rawhide is controversial and expensive. These are a great substitute -- she's totally satisfied, they cost half as much, and I feel more comfortable giving her a MilkBone product since the brand has an excellent reputation for safety. My dog is 65lbs and she does finish these chews quickly, but she's happy so I am too. I've stayed with this product because they are VOHC-accepted, which means the doctors on the Veterinary Oral Health Council have determined they truly reduce tartar (not all canine dental products do).

These chews are pretty soft, so it’s easy to break in half for smaller dogs. They’re not so soft that my dogs eat them right away though, it takes them a couple minutes to chew through them, so it’s a fun durable treat to satisfy their needs. My big lab has gingivitis and ever since I started giving him these chews, I’ve noticed his gums and teeth look healthier and he doesn’t have such a hard time eating hard food anymore. My dogs love them and they’re a good safe size to present choking.
