Dogs

After looking at the dust jacket photograph of that incredible Puli, I simply HAD to see the rest of the photos. (It should be noted that the hard cover of the book is NOT that same Puli photo...) Many of the photographs on the inside are equally amazing; the Great Dane with the Chihuahua, the fabulous blonde Afghan Hound, the white Poodle, the Bloodhound, the Neopolitan Mastiff, the two Doberman Pinschers, and the black Puli are incredibly beautiful, and such an intimate portrayal of these magnificent animals. However, as another reviewer noted, I was terribly disappointed by the pictures that seem to be taken from underneath the dog after it had been placed on glass table. It's a photographic gimmick that didn't work for me at all. I was altogether let down by the photos of the dachshund, and can hardly believe that this brilliant photographer was obliged to resort to an underbelly shot. Those photos didn't capture the essence of the tenacious, persistent, intelligent, loyal, funny and fun-loving dachshund at all. (He employed this same technique with the Labradoodle.) Although there were many photos of some dogs, it seemed to me that the inclusion of some of the more commonplace breeds would make the book more enjoyable, as well. For instance, there are no pictures of Irish Setters, a very old breed, and regarded by many to be the most beautiful dogs in the world. In any event, this book is an magnificent view into the world of dogs. Tim Flach's photography is incredible, and captures the beautiful, comical, serious, endearing quality of his subjects. The text is amazing, too, and discusses the evolution of dogs, the importance of their relationship with humans, as well as current breeding practices. Very enjoyable, and beautiful, book for every dog lover. Highly recommended!

If you like dogs, you will love this book. Flach is an amazing photographer. His photos are so beautiful. This book also has interesting information about dogs.

Great coffee table book! People LOVE the cover and always pick it up to look at!

Let me start by saying this book is gorgeous. It is big and the pictures are just lovely. The photographer is obviously very talented and his creative use of perspective is really cool. I understand this book is about various breeds and the dogs are gorgeous. They are like supermodels of the dogs world, perfect representations of their breed. That's why I can't go with 5 stars here. Reason being I look down at my old gray haired, pot bellied, arthritic Labrador Retriever I can't help but be a little jealous (Ha Ha). I think he would make a great model though.

This is a beautiful and joyous collection of photographs of dogs, wildly witty and profoundly perceptive. Dog lovers will treasure the intensity of expression that he succeeds in capturing, and the exactitude with which he captures the essential qualities of many different breeds. As a devoted standard poodle owner, the pairing of show-ready poodles with elaborate topiary was very apt, revealing both the beauty of the dog, and the silliness that that beauty inspires. But you don't have to be a dog lover to love this book -- it is a collection of stunning pictures, beautiful as studies in pure form. I got this as a Christmas present: it's a wonderful gift.

ちょっとお値段がはるので躊躇しましたが、 買ってよかった、とにかく美しい。保存版です。 プードルの極彩色でするカラーリングや犬としての機能を無視したトリミングの仕方は個人的には反対なのですが、 全体的に「これがプロの仕事だ！」と言わしめる写真の迫力は一見の価値ありです。
