The media could not be loaded. I had a several mockingbirds trying to take up residence in a large bush/tree beside my house. We think they came here from another house where they cut back all the big bushes.Anyway They made the most awful loud squawking noise throughout the day disturbing me while working from home.They would also fly by and dive bomb my cat when she tried to sit on the porch, intimidating her making her hide and try to come side.I researched how to get rid of them as they were becoming a nuisance to me and my cat and found this big beautiful horned owl.I sat him up on the city recycle bin right next to the tall bush/tree they had taken over.Amazingly, silence, nothing but the peaceful sound of regular birds chirping. After a day or so I moved him to the other blue recycle bin, as recommended, to make him look more life like. Sweet silence.I love this guy! When I opened the big box he was much bigger than I expected. The color and markings are very realistic and attractive. His eyes look so real! They look like glass and almost light up. It is plastic and feels light, but there is a hole in the bottom with a stopper that you can remove and fill with rocks, etc. to weight it down to stabilize it.I love this guy not only because he backs those mockingbirds up but he is beautiful - he is truly an asset to my yard. Would buy again 💯 percent!

Do you have a problem with woodpeckers? This could be the solution! It looks fantastic and is realistic. It stands up well on its own and has a removable bottom piece to add sand or something else to weigh it down.

Please make sure you read why I do in fact, still like this product.My main purpose for purchasing this is to keep squirrels out of my garden. I am in a very urban area and am still fortunate to have a backyard with a garden. With that comes a tremendous amount of rude squirrels that enjoy digging in my window boxes (I use for herbs and lettuce) and in my garden itself. I have tried everything to keep them away, including purchasing this owl. First, I tried to fill him/her with water to weight it down and make it sturdy. It does not hold water in any way at all, you will have to purchase sand to make him/her sturdy. You will have to anchor it down as it is a very lightweight piece. As directed I moved him/her from place to place to keep all the animals on their toes, no luck...squirrels continued to saunter about the garden and I am pretty sure taunt me as they went about digging up my plants. One of the places I put it was on the rail of my deck and I kid you not, a squirrel knocked him/her down to get to my window box. RUDE. This didn't work for me, nor did it keep other birds out of my garden.You may ask, well why would you give this a 4 star review and the answer is simple. This has become the absolute star of my backyard, honestly, he is the Kramer of our neighborhood. My friends pose with pictures of him/her, move it to different locations and sometimes take him/her home. It is a fantastic talking point and there is something oddly satisfying about berating it when we come home to find squirrels have dug stuff up. Frankly, it's hilarious.If you have a squirrel problem, a sense of humor and an extra $12 to gamble with, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this piece. If you are a serious gardener with high expectations of pest control, you may want to look elsewhere...

Works great!!!!! Keeps the squirrels (the sworn enemy of our dog) away but not the birds in our wooded PNW yard. The only problem is the squirrels have now moved to our side yard. So am ordering a second one as soon as I finish this review. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is it would be great if it came with a plug for the hole in the bottom. It is very lightweight and blows over if you don’t fill it or stake it.UPDATE to 5 STARS! This owl works so great at keeping the squirrels away that I ordered a second one, since the squirrels were smart enough to just move to our side yard to avoid the front yard owl. The second one came with a plug (which I complained about in the original review). So I emailed the vendor about the first one missing a plug and they sent me a plug right away. Nice recovery for a small quality control issue.

Seems nice enough but it came with no plug to put sand in to weight it down. Is it suppose to come with a plug? It’s useless w/o it.

The owl itself is gorgeous and realistic. But Dalen's listing states this less than one pound hollow plastic owl can be filled with sand or gravel to weigh it down and not blow away in the wind. I have nowhere to hang or mount it-only a wall to sit it on. Dalen chose to keep a large gaping hole at the bottom of the owl with NO plastic or rubber plug piece to seal sand or gravel into the owl. Tape for closure will only melt off in the high temps of Las Vegas making this owl USELESS! It would sail away on the first breeze. I bought a different brand owl-not as realistic-but it has the twist on and off plastic plug piece on the bottom to hold in gravel, sand, or rocks. DALEN WHAT DUMDUM CAME UP WITH THAT BOTTOM DESIGN? I'm sure I'm not the only one who returned this owl due to this truly ridiculous flaw. Spend a few thousand dollars on developing a rubber plug design that will easily fit into all those existing holes and PROBLEM SOLVED.

I have squirrels and rabbits digging in my garden. I didn’t want to build a fence or use anything with chemicals soooooo, I decided to try this owl. The color, size and detail are VERY realistic and it’s constructed of durable materials. We had a huge storm with heavy winds the first night it was out….it’s in my raised bed planters and is against a building but I was certain it would have blown into the next state. Surprisingly, it hadn’t moved an inch when I went out to the garden in the morning. Keep in mind, I have not filled it with sand which you can do but I haven’t needed to do that. So far, it’s working…no more squirrels/rabbits digging
