I keep one upstairs and one downstairs. When the foam applicator began to fall apart from several years of occasional use I peeled it off the first one. It works just fine without the sponge applicator. I'll do the same with the newer one. If you are using it to apply a prescription cream you will waste a lot of the cream that is absorbed by the sponge. If you are applying a thick ointment it will be more difficult to wash out of the foam and if you are applying something near or over an incision or open sore I think the foam pad is an infection hazard so I recommend peeling, scraping, rubbing it off and just using the hard plastic "paddle" to apply whatever you are using. The handle could be a little longer, but it is an easily packable size. ### ⭐ Don't waste a dollar on this. *by C***L on August 24, 2019* I like nothing about this. It tore apart the first time using. The handle is good material but the sponge came off and it then served no purpose.
