Down to Earth is where I belong
Flipped through a few stories and tossed the book. Far too speculative for my taste. Couldn't relate to any of the characters, the plots, his writing style, which, although highly imaginative, unique, is not my cuppa. Give me Somerset Maugham's stories, Elmore Leonard's westerns, Louis L'Amour's fabulous collection of the Sackett history, Jack London, Simenon, Chandler, John D. MacDonald, et al. This kind of fantastical "realism" by Borges and Marquez and others in that writing style just don't interest me. Down to Earth realism is my scope. But, had to try something different if only to convince myself once again of my stylistic preferences. This is not a criticism of the man, just his writing style.

Bradbury's exuberant best
Ray Bradbury's personal selection of his own favorites up to that time-but the best short stories in this collection have that marvelous, unique fresh, youthful air of wonder, energy and exuberance typical of all his best work. You won't be sorry if you read it.

I don't know why, but I did not gain ...
I don't know why, but I did not gain an appreciation for Ray Bradbury until my mid-forties even though I am an avid reader and a high school English teacher. That being said, Bradbury's fiction is compelling and thought-provoking and should be read by, well, everyone!

One of the greatest collections of short stories ever
I've loved this book ever since I ran across it in my high school pop lit class. The stories are unexpected and leave an indelible effect. Bradbury is a genius of short story writing, and these are the cream of the crop. Read it!
