Excellent kit at an excellent price
Wanted a streaming box to use purely to run Kodi and an external HDD with my movies on, I have bought several "Cheap Andriod" boxes all waste of time either dead slow aor just clunky. I recently bought a Firestick 4k and it was just laggy. I have a Nvidia Shield as my main media player/streamer and although a brilliant bit of kit I ddin't want to spend alot on a box that wont be used as much.As the Xiaomi comes with the Android TV operating system (same as the shield) it makes it an more enjoyable system to use. Also the fact it has a USB port I was able to stick a 5TB usb HDD into it and easily access my media. For the money I don't think you will find anything better.Only issue I have is there is no Play/Pause button on the remote to pausing a video is 2 presses of the OK button rather than just one. but not a big enough issue not to want one.

Great product
It was super easy to setup.Extra channels with Xiaomi Plus, though I cannot play a few of those channels, such as EuroNews and a few others.I bought a second one, as the Kodi app installed in developer mode inside the LG smart TV I have has some issues with the audio not being in sync, and there is nothing I can do about that. This little box solves the issue.Unfortunately I cannot find iPlayer app in the Google Store, as this is a Google TV box, as opposed to a Android TV box.Audio and picture quality are asadvertised, pretty good.

All good so far
I only bought this as an External Hard Drive media player to use alongside a Firestick, set up easily enough and downloaded VLC player, it plays all my MP4 movie files no problem, my previous media player had format issues but this is a good way of doing it. Also the navigation of the system is intuitive, the display quality is crystal clear, it has a nice simple controller and build quality is high. The only anomaly I noticed was that when I initially entered my wifi password it said it couldn't connect but then connected anyway. Make sure you do the update before attempting to use it.

I really wanted to love this box and wanted to be blown away, but it left me deflated
A week ago I realised I was to entrenched with Amazon products and the fire stick drives me crazy with its awful cluttered interface.I decided to at least get rid of the fire stick and start a little divorce and get some separation from big A.After careful consideration I went for the Mi box s, I have had cheaper android streaming boxes before but the lack of support for even 1080p in Netflix was a killer for me.But this box does have the 3 apps I use the most at 1080p- You tube, Netflix and prime video I use in that order so I was happy with that and I thought any missing apps I can manually install.I hate the BBC but every now and again they do knock out a good documentary so adding it manually did not bother me, but it does not work with the Mibox as it has no control and I found I could scroll down and left only, I was not too bothered as I can just cast it by the inbuilt chromecast and cast from my phone as I use it very little and the rest of the UK catch up apps I don't use at all due to the constant stream of adverts .Where I did have issue is the lack of compatible apps or very little choice as they are not a lot available and if I sideloaded would I have the same control issue as iplayer? but the killer was the lack of expandable storage as 8GB is not a lot now a days and I'm sure with a good kodi build on there you will end up space managing.I did expect a USB drive to be classed as extra storage but I could only get movies to play from it.I love the Xiaomi brand I have bought loads of their gear over the years and its one of my go to brands for quality electronics at a decent price but on this one they fall a little short for the price. If it was half the price around £40 then I would persevere and be all in but at £80 it does not feel value for the money.I'm sure they could update the controls firmware side so it works even if it's with side loaded apps but sadly, I have decided to return the unit and just go all out and get the Nvidia TV.

Crap streaming quality
Do not buy! Pathetic streaming quality. Keep on jumping back to main menu. I wasted a lot of money! Won’t recommend at all!

Make sure you update it!
I bought one of these for my daughter and granddaughter. It suffered an annoying initial issue with a green overcast at random intervals. It turned out that this was due to the age of her old TV... it had difficulty maintaining a steady RGB stream. The issue was easily cured just by updating the Mi Box's firmware... a process that was very quick and really easy. After that, no problems at all and we've all thoroughly enjoyed the quality of both video and audio. My daughter loves the remote control... it's small and extremely simple, unlike other remote controls for TV, etc. with their plethora of buttons. (I also added the Mi Box remote control app to her iPad just in case she mislays the actual remote control.)
