The Simplest, Least Expensive, Foolproof Way to Make a Delicious Pot (or Cup) of Coffee
I chuckle when I see all the expensive and complicated ways people choose to make coffee in their home. Nothing is as SIMPLE and INEXPENSIVE as this Melitta system, and it makes a fine cup (or pot) of coffee! You do NOT need electronic equipment to make coffee. You do NOT need pods or other pre-measured portions (so overpriced and wasteful for the environment). You do NOT need to impress your friends about what a sophisticated barista you are. THIS is all you need, assuming you would like a traditional American brewed cup of coffee (rather than espresso, latte, cappuccino, etc.) You get a carafe (a simple glass container); a plastic cone that fits on top, a paper filter you place in the cone, scoop some ground coffee into that filter, and pour hot water over it. You can easily control the strength of the coffee by putting in less or more coffee grounds (and it's not gonna matter that much if you're a little off). The basic package comes with the glass carafe, the plastic cone, and a few No. 4 size paper filters. (Refills of the filters are readily available, including at many stores, at just pennies per filter -- and you can use just about any brand of filter, you're not locked into having to use Melitta). The carafe is easy to clean. (MUCH easier than, for example, the Chemex coffee maker), dishwasher safe (upper tray only). Everything works, every time. No fuss, no muss. I also own a single cup Melitta plastic cone -- those are great because you can place that directly on to your coffee cup, use a smaller (No. 2 size) paper filter, and thus make your coffee directly into your coffee cup. I mean, how convenient is that. I am a coffee lover whose day does not really start until I've had my morning coffee. I swear by my Melitta Coffee Maker. It really is hilarious to me how people go out of their way to spend more money on complicated coffee makers. In part, this is because the kitchen supply stores like Sur Le Table, Bed Bath & Beyond, Williams & Sonoma, etc push the more expensive stuff. (How much profit can they make by selling you this item, which only costs about $12???) OK, there is one minor negative. The glass is not super-strong. It's not uncommon after a few years that it breaks or chips. For example, if you drop it, it will break). But that's a trade-off for how inexpensive it is. You can just buy a new one if/when that happens. Really no big deal.

Coffeemakers: The Melitta Is Better.
Probably at least three decades ago, I purchased a Melitta Cone Filter Manual Coffeemaker (6 cup). I was just getting started on grinding my own coffee and I read somewhere that this was the way to make the best coffee. I was very satisfied and it lasted for years and years. Then I met my wife. She took one look at my coffee-making operation and shook her head in disbelief. I needed a high-end coffeemaker. This just wouldn't do! Well, I ended up buying a Cuisineart Coffeemaker with all kinds of bells and whistles. It was good equipment and made a good cup of coffee, although the cost of the equipment was over 7 times that of my Melitta and the coffee wasn't as good. Plus, the equipment had to be meticulously cleaned and that quickly turned into an onerous task. My old Melitta was relegated to camping duties and finally lost. Well, my wife is now gone. And I was about to clean the Cuisineart Coffeemaker for the umpteenth time. I came up with the brilliant idea of going back to a Melitta. Good move! They were still around. I couldn't spot them in stores, but they were available on Amazon. What a neat gadget! I used it this morning and the coffee tasted so good! And it was so simple! And it took no longer than my super-duper coffeemaker. What a relief to be back to a simpler life. Well, I cleaned my Cuisineart Coffeemaker and stored it away. If I have guests, I can always break it out just to show them how I'm living the good life. Now, remember all that nasty business about cleaning that Cuisineart? Well, with the Melitta, you can just put the component parts into the upper rack of the dishwasher. The Melitta is clearly a superior coffee maker. Gary Peterson

Exactly what I needed
This is perfect. Brews quickly. While I haven’t measured to see how much the pot actually holds and what the measurements on the carafe measure to, I know how to brew to my liking. The instructions say to use two of the scoops (one scoop is a tablespoon) for every 6 ounces water depending on your liking. So far that’s been pretty good with the current coffee I have. I just premeasure the water before boiling so I can just pour the whole kettle over it (takes a couple pours since the filter doesn’t hold 16oz. I like big coffees. I have an espresso maker but have wanted to cut back on the mochas and don’t have room for a full coffee pot so this is perfectly tiny. Plus the filter can sit on top of my mug and brew directly into my cup, no need to dirty the carafe if I’m the only one having coffee. But I mostly purchased this to have a coffee pot while camping. All I need to do is boil water ovee the fire and I have an instant pot of fresh coffee. Love this. Only thing I didn’t like was that there was no packaging in the box to keep the carafe from breaking. No foam or whatever, just the carafe, filter/brewer, scoop and the instructions and paper filters, all in a super thin box. Poor packaging. This came in a larger box with other items so I know there was room for the box to shift around and I’m actually really surprised it didnt break.

Llegó roto el vaso del filtro. A pesar de que en remates de almacén decía que estaba en perfecto estado.
