... month ago and so far I have been very happy with it
I got this about a month ago and so far I have been very happy with it. I set up a couple of external drives, in enclosures, sitting on a laptop cooler, on top of my computer desk hutch. I use this unit as the main controller for the set up. I have a USB powered fan plugged into it and the other enclosure plugged into it as well. So everything can be controlled with the one power switch on this unit. So far it has worked flawlessly and the only downside to it was that it cost a little more than I wanted to spend - but I'm not sorry I spent the extra money. If you think about it you're paying $20 for an enclosure and $20 for the USB 3 hub. The eject lever works well and the SATA connector holds the drive tightly enough that I don't worry about it slipping out even though it's facing downward on the angled laptop cooler I have the enclosures/drives sitting on. The other enclosure I'm using is the Plugable one that's similar to this one but without the USB 3 hub. That one also is working very well.

"Economy and performance"
Right out of the box, you know that this is certainly not the most expensive solution, but it comes professionally wrapped with all of the parts you need. It is plastic, but well made. It only has one light indicator, but it shows power on and read/write access and is all you need. The HDD plugged in and fit like a glove. I did get, and used, the optional accessory longer USB 3.0 cable offered by Amazon because the one that ships with this is too short to be practicable. Along with a 4TB Seagate drive (non-retail version) I now have a very usable USB 3.0 hub with extra ports and HDD creating a very nice single drive archival storage station. With swappable drives, I can store quit a bit of data. So far, this unit is perfect for my needs, something to get started with without buying the whole farm! Initial access read/write rates were indicated at just over 100 mbs while copying folders from another archival disc on USB 3.0.

It does spin down!
Purchased this to replace an older version of the same product (didn't have the hub, etc). This works much better. While the older version would not spin down the drive / automatically shut down when you unplug the USB, this one does. The blue light goes off and I can feel the drive spin down when I unplug the USB cord from my laptop. That's great news for the health of my drive since I don't always remember to turn it off. This is a great product!

This is number 5
I have 4 of them stacked with a usb fan blowing on them to keep them cool. The fan is plugged into one of the ports and works fine.I like the unit with the usb hub because it allows me to daisy chain them. When plugged into a usb 3 port the speed is very good. I have one I bought over 2 years ago and three others I got last year all of them have been in use 24/7 since I installed them. I connected them up to a linux box which I have been using as a file / backup server.

Great desktop dock with a USB3 hub thrown in.
Love this thing, Works great with my surface and collection of 3.5 desktop TBS I have leftover from the old rig. The 3 USB3 ports on the side are a major plus. I can also vouch for the fact that as advertised all 3 allow full 3.0 spec throughput at the same time, no drops!

Best choice
Very good quality, I have other 2 HD docking before, this is the best one. I will buy more of this when I need another one. Excellent speed for USB3, not every docking has same speed, this one is fastest. I pretty like it.

Works for me
I purchased this unit for the convenience of swapping drives without needing to disassemble the case. My primary reason for choosing this model was that it seemed the horizontal aspect of the drive places less strain on the connectors than a docking case that loads hard drives "toaster" style. The drive slips in smoothly and the ejection lever works equally smoothly. Its function as a 3 port USB hub is also a welcome advantage.

Klare Empfehlung!

An excellent option for those needing both a USB 3.0 hub and a UASP hard drive dock...
...at about half the cost of the slightly prettier aluminum, vertically-oriented Startech SDOCKU33HB (black) and SDOCKU33HW (white). Both use the top-of-the-line ASmedia ASM1053E SATA/USB3 bridge, which supports up to 6TB drives and UASP transfers. As with all ASM1053E docks and enclosures, performance is superbly fast: almost as good as Thunderbolt. The Startechs uses the slightly newer VIA Labs VL812 USB3 hub controller, but the VL811 in the Archgon's integrated hub offers nearly identical performance. The only feature that the Archon really gives up is a USB fast-charging port, which it lacks, but which is not necessary in most situations. While the Startech docks do come with a two-year warranty, as opposed to the one-year from Archgon, when you factor in the cost of shipping the unit back to Startech, it would be cheaper to buy a second dock in the event of a failure in year two, and the failure rate on USB3 docks seems (historically) to be extremely low even under heavy use. As long as you don't smash it, wrench the cables sideways, or rips drives out of it with undue force, it should work well for years. Some will much prefer the flat-bed design of the Archgon, while others will prefer the vertical orientation of the Startechs; even so, the difference in the physical footprint of the units is very, very small. The Archgon is by no means a desk-hog.One word of warning: USB3 devices are known to cause interference with some wireless network hardware. When I first set the Archgon dock/hub up behind my Macbook Air, turning it on instantly made every attempt to connect time out; turning off the dock would immediately complete the connection. When I moved the Archgon dock two feet to the side before turning it on again, the wireless connection was right back to normal.
