Direct fit 1996 XJ STOP THAT RATTLE !
I bought this to replace the rattle trap in my 1996 Jeep XJ. It fit fine, I did have to replace my (downstream) O2 sensor my old one just didnt work after transferring over. I used a cut off wheel and a torch to replace mine, quick and easy new clamps too ( mine were rusted solid )CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TIPS : If your O2 sensor is damaged while removing it, ( if you dont buy a new one) or you contaminate it with something it may or may not turn the check engine light on immediately. You need to complete 2 full drive cycles before you can relax and have a beer ! This should include a short trip on the highway at a sustained speed for a few minutes. THIS APPLIES TO GETTING THE LIGHT TO GO OUT TOO! If your light was on before replacing and if you replace your cat and O2 sensor but your light is still on ( if you dont use a code reader to clear the code) You need to complete 2 consecutive full drive cycles for the code and check engine light to go out ( assuming your original code was downstream sensor etc) This should include a short trip on the highway at a sustained speed/rpm then pull off somewhere and stop shut off the engine then: DO AGAIN. The next time you start your vehicle if there is no issue the code will clear itself. If Your driving does not meet the parameters to run the O2 monitors it will not clear the light ( from what I understand do your own research etc) hope this helps, I have seen people get into a parts buying frenzy and blame the cat/sensor when all they had to do was DRIVE. Do yourself a favor, buy a new O2 sensor. more than likely the old one is going to strip out when trying to remove it or it will not read properly if you do get it out. Its 30 bucks and will save a load of your time not having to order it after you install the Cat and have a hole you cant fill because the old one wont come out .Hope this was helpful, good luck !

Perfect fit for my 98 xj and no more rattle!
My exhaust was rattling like crazy and I had no idea what it was. Bought this cat, paid an exhaust shop to get it welded in and boom, no more rattling. Great fit and quality and no issues so far after 6 months.

Direct fit, easy install..
Bought this to replace an original catalytic converter on a 2000 Cherokee Classic 4.0L, or XJ. It's got just under 126k and the original cat has been rattling for a while now, but no check engine light. So I drove it this way for quite some time. Finally took the plunge and decided to replace it. I also purchased a new Bosch O2 sensor from RockAuto because the current lead time was almost two weeks out from A to Z. I wasn't going to try and remove the original. Install was very simple. There's an inlet and outlet. The end with the O2 bung goes towards the rear. Removing the original was a PITA! I only had to worry about the front end since I recently replaced the muffler and tail pipe. Had to use a Dremel. Bought new clamps since the original had to be cut. Once installed, I crossed my fingers and started her up, no check engine light, it's a good day. Hopefully this lasts 20 years like the original.I'll update this review accordingly.

$300 dollar header-back system including all mounting hardware!
I put together a $300 header-back exhaust system for my 99 cherokee. I used this Walker catilitic converter as part of it because it has a warranty, and it is "EPA Certified".If you are putting together a system, the first thing I would recommend to you is the Bosal downpipe from Autozone. I was most impressed with the build quality of this part over any other part I used. It has a better appearance than the Walker down pipe. It doesn't have all of the crinkle bends that the Walker has.The next recommendation I would give to you is the Nickson band clamps that I bought at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Band clamps usually run about $10-$15 each. At O'Reilly they were $5-$6 each. Band clamps are nice because they hold the exhaust system together without deforming the exhaust pipe as badly as the typical U shaped (guillotine) clamps do. This helps you in the event that you might need to dismantle your exhaust system to remove your transmission in the future. The most notable part that I purchased was the tailpipe. There wasn't anything particularly special about the pipe itself, other than the fact that it was only $17.55, and ***most importantly***, I used a (Walker 45944) tailpipe that was for a 1986-1992 jeep XJ Cherokee. It was a typical Walker part, so it had crinkle bends all over it. The thing I liked about it was that it had the normal exhaust hanger that every Cherokee uses behind the muffler, but it didn't have the horizontal bar hanging off of it towards the rear-end of the vehicle. My jeep uses the hoop-strap style exhaust hanger. I did not need the bar to mount mine, but the walker tailpipe for my 1999 xj had a dumb little bar welded to it that I would have to cut off. Additionally, I knew that I was going to be cutting it flush with my leaf spring in the rear and putting a turndown on it (see picture), so I didn't want any interference from the unused hanger that was welded on.Other than that, i was impressed by how easy it was to cut the exhaust pipe with the exhaust pipe cutting tool (rented from autozone). I used an exhaust pipe expander (rented from autozone) to fit a few of the parts together since they were not perfectly round when they arrived.I had oxygen sensors from NKG sitting on a shelf for the past few years that I had been planning on installing once I got a new exhaust system. They were about $22 each from Rock Auto. The price of those aren't included in the $300 dollars I paid for the exhaust system. Most systems only come with the pipes though, and for $300 I got the band clamps, exhaust hanger, insulator, gasket and all of the pipes. Here is a breakdown of the parts and prices.O'Reilly auto parts:1 Exhaust Clamp 1.25" (Nickson)1 Band clamp 2.50"(Nickson)3 Band Clamps 2.25" (Nickson)1 Gasket (Nickson)1 Insulator (Nickson)1 Rear Hanger (Walker)1 Turndown Exhaust Tip (Nickson)$49.42Autozone:1 Down Pipe (Bosal)1 Exhaust Pipe Cutter (Free Rental)1 Exhaust Pipe Expander (Free Rental)57.99Amazon:1 Catalytic Converter (Walker) $118.79 + tax1 Muffler (Dynomax) $57.21 + tax1 Tailpipe (Walker) $17.55 + taxTotal: $300.96

Fair quality
Expected more from Walker - it works but made of thin metal - not on the same thickness as original - a bit noisier because it is smaller overall

The product also has the oxygen sensor port at the right place and my sensor fit fine. No rattle from the converter yet
Replaced a worn-out OEM catalytic converter on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L with 205k miles. The honeycomb ballast inside the converter had broken up and been rattling for years, and recently a 2-inch portion became lodged in the muffler pipe, causing severe power loss.I used a Sawzall to cut the existing converter free, used two 2-1/2" and one 1-1/4" U-brackets to secure the new converter. I did have to trim approximately half an inch off the new converter's muffler-side pipe to get everything to fit because I had about 1" of piping left on the muffler. The product also has the oxygen sensor port at the right place and my sensor fit fine. No rattle from the converter yet.
