The Hunger and Other Stories

It was nice to revisit Charles Beaumont and see some stories I had never seen before. While some of the writing is a bit dated, much stands up well. Great stylist. A real tragedy that his career was cut short.The only bad part of the book is the Introduction by Bernice Murphy. The main problem with this is that it is little more than a synopsis of the stories and is thus rife with spoilers. This would have been tolerable as an Afterword but is inexcusable as an Introduction. DO NOT read the Introduction before you read the stories.

Beaumont is a fascinating, unpredictable writer, and this book is no exception!

Charles Beaumont was the writer's writer. His works of fantasy and horror are some of the best ever written. THE HUNGER and OTHER STORIES is one of my favorite collections and every story contained within is a masterpiece. Can you tell I love Beaumont? He wrote movies, he wrote TV, he wrote fiction. He wrote some of the best episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. His best friend was the late great Richard Matheson. He left us way too soon. But his work lives on and it is great to be able to carry this collection around with me on my Kindle, as I regularly revisit Beaumont's stories, even though I've read them all many times over, year after year. Five Easy Stars.

If you are a fan of Twilight Zone Charles Beaumont was one of the main writters this is a sample of some of his other work. Amazing stories

Charles Beaumont was one of the original TZ writers, but don't expect the same from this collection of short stories. These stories are deep and dark, several involving family madness. I had to space my reads over time (take breaks between the stories) as I found them too disturning to read in one sit-down. Well written, but not for gloomy people.
