Comparing three lightweight "comfortable" models
I have been on a search for over the ear or on-ear headphones that when used with a laptop sound good, are not expensive, and (here's the big eliminator) are comfortable to wear. I am going to compare 4 phones which are readily available: Panasonic RP- HT 21 (current prices as of 4/12 - $4.49), Koss Portapro ($18.72), JVC HA-S160-B ($14.23) and AKG K240 (4.5) ($93.90) The AKG's were to be used as a sound benchmark. I listen mostly to classical music, soundtracks, and jazz. I used the following music: Katsarsis playing the Kreisler Praeludium, Rattle and the LA Philharmonic doing the adagio from Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony, and von Karajan and the Berlin doing the opening of Strauss's Thus Sprach Zarathustra. The phones were powered only by a laptop because that is what most people will use lightweight phones for (that or other small listening devices) For that reason the AKG's were not a good choice because it could not reach even moderately high sound levels from my Toshiba laptop. The sound was super smooth on the AKG's but the lightweights were more compatible with the laptop. The Panasonics sound good with mid range music, like the Kreisler piano music, but their weakness showed in the Strauss. They could not handle the complex, loud tones with any finesse. I give the JVC's a small edge sonically over the Koss's overall because while they both handled detail and loud volume about the same, the JVC showed a bit more reality in the music. By that I mean, e.g., horns sounded more like horns and not synthesized sound. Both Koss and JVC allowed you to hear the decay and space in the Strauss opening. Now, on to comfort. The Panasonics are very small and light and one can wear them for a long time without even noticing them. The Koss's have a clumsy headband, and I found the pressure on the ear uncomfortable after 15 minutes or so. The JVC's, which use a simple headband, were almost as comfortable as the Panasonics. The AKG's, like many over the ear phones, started becoming oppressive after 15 minutes. Note: I have a large head and this comfort level assessment may not be true for people with smaller noggins. I would use the Panasonics for times when they might receive heavy handling, such as when commuting on public transportation. They are cheap (and a real bargain) so damage will not be costly. The Koss were just a bit too clumsy to use - Koss needs to abandon its weird headband design. The JVCs were a clear choice for everyday listening with smaller devices. I think the AKG's just need a real amplifier to power them. In short, I thought the JVC's were a clear winner in this bargain/comfort category.

comfortable now
JVC Flats review. These are nice headphones, very light. Minimalist folding phones. The sound quality is excellent. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Even small and light phones like these will inevitably cause ear pain for me after extended use unless they are modified to relax the clamping pressure somewhat. When new, and lying flat, the bottoms of the two ear cans meet or even overlap. I stretched the sides of the top steel band slightly (past yield) and observed the headphone in lying flat position. When there was about 1" open gap between the bottom of the ear cans I found clamping pressure much reduced, the headphone much more comfortable.

Terrific, affordable headphones that are very useful for mobility and sound great. HOWEVER...
They break incredibly easily, due to not being designed sturdily enough where the headphones themselves connect to the part that goes over the top of your head. I've owned several pairs of these exact headphones, and they all have broken at some point or another because of an overly weak/thin piece of plastic that holds the metal part together. The metal isn't sharp, but it's a nuisance to have to tape the headphones back together or otherwise deal with one of the headphones often falling off of the plastic part that goes over your head if you are walking around with the headphones around your neck, for example. These headphones do break at the point where you adjust them very easily, and the pair I most recently bought here actually managed to break within the first month. Because of that it might seem very strange that I'm leaving a 4 star review, but I think these headphones are absolutely terrific for basic consumer use in literally every other way. The fact that they fold to be flat makes them very easy to transport and store. The sound quality is very good, and there's a pretty decent range of frequencies. They can also handle a good amount of bass. I can listen to metal/rock with a bass boost and it sounds great while keeping the higher frequencies clear and audible. And the headphones are just really easy to move around with/take on trips and that sort of thing. I give them a 4/5 because they are really great in almost every way, and they are my go-to make for affordable headphones... I just wouldn't expect them to stay in one piece for very long.

great travel headphone
Bought this headphone plus the case for my recent European travel. It was lightweight, crisp clear quality and compatible with the QuietVox/Vox, cord length was adequate. I wished the right ear or left ear had a unique big/super identifier that you can spot without glasses or feel with light gloves on. I used this with my Iphone/Ipad with an aux jack. Received compliments on this flat foldable design and the orange case. Great device for travel!

Best inexpensive headphones, PERFECT
I don't usually write reviews, but I really love these headphones. I got them to be travel headphones, but now I use them at home too. They are so comfortable, light and stay in place. I hate ear buds, they always hurt my ears, and usually sound lousy. I have had bigger headphones over the ear, but my ears get hot after a little while. These sit on my ears, so they can breathe, but the soft covered ring really makes a nice speaker area over my ear. These look like they have no business blocking outside noise (not noise canceling), but they actually block quite a lot of sound, but let just enough through if you want to know what is happening around you. They sound better than a pair of somewhat more expensive headphones I have; I really hear the full range of sound. I have heard new parts in songs I had listened to many times before. They fold up to be pretty compact for carrying in a bag. All this for an incredibly low price. I don't know if they could be beaten. I'm on here to buy a backup pair, and maybe some as gifts. I wish they offered a travel case, but at this price you don't have to worry too much. I cut open the blister pack carefully, and just reuse it as a case if I'm going to be stuffing a backpack.

Excellent light headphones with a solid sound.
UPDATE: Finally broke. Lasted almost 3 years, so not bad for the price but disapointed they broke. The earpiece/stem fell out of the metal adjuster and wouldn't stay together. The earphones still work fine, just can't keep them on the head! Down to 3 stars from 4 stars after breaking! I share an office with three others and I often like to listen to music while I work. Helps me plug away at the computer. I wanted something light and comfortable and inexpensive. These headphones are great. Sure the sound doesn't thump with bass like some $$$ closed studio headphones, but the sound is plenty clear, loud and perfect for my setting. These sit on the ear, with the ear cup being about the size of my normal (I think) sized ear. They block a decent amount of external sound, too, which is a bonus. I hate ear buds and they don't stay in my ears. These sound better than the Apple ear buds, anyways. Overall, I recommend these. They can sometimes be a bit TIGHT after a few hours on my head, but I've never found a pair that I can completely forget I have on. I will compare this as being like having reading glasses. If you aren't used to wearing them all day, they can eventually feel heavy/tight on your head, just like my reading glasses after a couple of hours. Again, this doesn't mean they are uncomfortable. I bet 90% of all headphones feel this way.

Probably the best inexpensive headphones you can find...
First off, let me say, I'm not rating these compared to higher end headphones. The sound quality won't compare to even a set of $40 headphones, much less truly high end ones. I'm reviewing and rating these based on the price. I paid under $14 for these and in all honesty, they blow away every set of under $20 headphones I've ever listened to. The sound quality is decent (great for the price), bass is present (though not especially deep) and sound overall will impress you given the super-budget price. I bought these for use on the treadmill because my MPOW bluetooth headphones died after 6 months and I figured I'd just go cheap and wired this go around. These seem like they're going to work perfect for that use. They're super light and comfortable. I had also bought a pair of AmazonBasics headphones, these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXP75RC/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_kj9KCbW7HMJMH specifically, and the Amazon headphones are insanely uncomfortable. To the point, not even joking, within 5 minutes of use the Amazon headphones had my ears in severe pain. The JVC's I can't even tell I'm wearing after 5 minutes. The only question for me will be the durability. If they break/die/malfunction I'll update the review. But as it stands, if they last me a year, I'd definitely replace them with the same model when they do meet their eventual end. For sub-$20 headphones, I'd give them a 5. If you compare them to higher end headphones, I'd likely drop the score to a 3 star, but since most of you will likely be considering these for just having a cheap pair as spares or for workouts, definitely the 5-stars.

Outstanding quality and value
I only take the time to review products that are either terrible, or great -- and as you can tell from my 5 star rating, these headphones fall in the later category. I'm glad I spent time researching and reading reviews on Amazon before making a purchase decision. The high praise for these headphones is well deserved based on my 2 days of testing of my new pair. I have some decent in-ear headphones, but now I have started jogging regularly and even the tightest-fitting in-ear set I own loosenes up after a few seconds of jogging, and it gets annoying to loose the bass response and constantly adjusting while jogging. So I decided I wanted an over-ear set that would: 1) Stay on at all times even with heavy jogging, and 2) Has a flat response audio quality... no emphasis on bass, mids, or highs. My budget was $20, and these headphones covered all bases, with the added benefit of being very comfortable on the ears with the cushioned padding. These sound much better than some of my more expensive headphones... in fact these are the only ones I own that I can play through my iPod Touch without any EQ settings needed, and sound great. Normally I have to change to some other EQ setting to help with the sound quality. Not these, they very faithfully reproduce the sound of each recording without over emphasizing any particular frequencies. PROS: Inexpensive, Flat/faithful sound response, comfortable, and don't fall off. CONS: May not fit smaller children or smaller heads properly. The headband's smallest size is what I use (average sized adult). I think a kid would want/need a tighter headband.

Tougher than they look.
Comfortable to wear in bed. These are my second purchase, I use them to listen to music that helps me relax enough to fall to sleep. Good value for money.

Comfy fit and sounds good!
Great earphones. Sound is good, but not like other major brands. No pain or harsh pressure on ears which is exactly what I was needing for extended use. Looks fine, old school-ish(!), sounds good, fits the bill. 9/10 Package was tough to open tho', killer plastic! Great for school or basic daily use.
