It works!
I live in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. Our temperatures can soar to 118 degrees in the summer.A few years ago we had a day that reached 121 degrees. It can get hot in the summer. To have a Koi pond in full sun requires more work and expense to keep the fish safe ad comfortable. It also requires one heck of a lot of water lilies. So, about 15 years ago, we decided to build our pond under a large and old Mesquite tree. This, of course, added maintenance in trying to remove debris from the tree in the pond. Of course, no matter how diligent, you cannot remove all of it.A regular chore in the summer is to remove the pump from the pond, break it down to get to the impeller, and remove whatever is slowing down, or could stop the pump.Te pumps usually last 2 to 3 years, before they require replacement. they run 24 hrs. per day.The one before the Oase looked very robust, had a great flow to our Oase 5000 filter system.Unfortunately, it was so sensitive to debris, it had to be cleared 3 times a week. We got sick of this, and purchased the Oase for our small 1.000 gallon pond.Expecting more of the same, we put the Oase in our pond 6 weeks ago, and HAVE NOT NEEDED TO CLEAN THE IMPELLER, onceIts rate of flow has not diminished, it just keeps going, no matter the debris. This, to me, this is an amazing feat, and well worth considering in looking for a pump.

Best pump we've had so far
I bought this for my parents' pond, and they absolutely love it. We put in a pond at their house about 13 years ago, and based the size on aesthetics rather than research. So it wound up being just slightly too big for the pumps and filters that are readily available in our (suburban) area to handle well (especially given the leaves from the big oak trees in their yard, and the sandy soil that blows into the pond daily). Since there is a significant price increase to the next level of pump/filter, they tried several of the models that were readily available, but someone would have to clean all of the intakes several times a week, the pump would inevitably burn out after a season or two, and we were spending more time fighting algae and silt than enjoying the pond.I bought this pump knowing that, based on the specs, it would be overkill for their pond. So I was a bit worried about that. But I picked it from the list of pumps recommended with the filter that I also bought (OASE BioSmart 5000), figuring that it was more important that they were compatible. The combo has worked beautifully. This pump has not needed to be fussed over anywhere near as much as any of the previous models we tried. It is powerful enough that debris gravitates to the part of the pond where it sits so we try to clean that out every couple of weeks (usually when it's hot enough out that we are looking for an excuse to cool off). But that's been about it through the summer. The plastic guards keeping debris out of the pump itself work way better than any other model we've had - it's the first one in years where we haven't had to add some kind of pre-filter or filter bag.

Pump clogs but problem was fixed with filter bag
Pump cage does not prevent debris (leaf litter) from clogging impeller. I was cleaning every day to keep the pump running, I just put it in a mesh bag to prevent debris from getting to pump. Seems to be working well.

best pump for the money
I have had this for two seasons and it is the best pump I have owned. I paired it with the Oase Biopress 1600 UVC pressurized filter and it has been the best investment. I don't have to get down on the ground to pull out the pump to clean the housing (it is a solid partical handling pump) every few weeks. In fact once the pond was balanced in the spring I would simply use a brush that came with my net kit (adjustable handle) to scrub the top off. I didn't pull it out until November. The Biopress is above ground. My pond has never been clearer or cleaner. I have several Koi and lots of pond plants so keeping it clean is key. It has made my pond easier to care for and maintain. What more can you ask.
