Underwood Deviled Ham Spread, 4.25 Ounce (Pack of 2)

As a boy my grandmother introduced me to this product. I spread it on fairly thin ion my bread since it really does have strong a flavor. My wife on the other hand eats it right out of the can. If I had anything negative to say about is that it is rather salty.

Growing up, my father ate Underwood Deviled Ham sandwiches for lunch and snacks, and he'd share this with me. The taste today is the same as then. An affordable and tasty spread for a sandwich, crackers, or a veggie dip. Affordable, delicious, storable, and (at least for me) a link to fond memories.

The name suggests that this is very spicy, but it's actually rather mild; just enough spice to avoid getting within range of being rather tasteless. It has a sibling, a chicken spread from the same maker, also very good, but a bit nearer to bland. Both go well on toast with mayo spread on first, and maybe a stick or two of asparagus or tomato on top.

I purchased this because I needed to bring a sandwich that would stay fresh without refrigeration and that did not use any nut butter. I added chopped pickles and mustard just like in the old days and it was sublime. Brought me back to my school days.

We expected Hurricane Florence to hit in our area so as you can imagine the shelves in the grocery stores were stripped bare days in advance of the expected arrival of the hurricane. So I ordered a few cans of Underwood Deviled Ham on Amazon to have on hand. They arrived promptly. Turned out we didn't need it because the storm turned south, so we just enjoyed it as a treat. The price was right and the product is as tasty as always.

You gotta put a lot of other ingredients to make this mush edible. So much salt. It's OK when you add a bunch of stuff, but on it's own it is inedible.
