To Have or Not Have Instrument Names
As a composer i use a lot of manuscript paper. Currently composing an opera that requires many staves...this one has 26 without the names of the various orchestral instruments on the left. For me that's what i need, particularly because this piece requires both the standard instruments such as woodwinds, brass, strings, etc., but also synths, guitars, drums and so and vocalists/choir. i also have other Carta variants, like #22 which has 'standardized' orchestral instruments on the left side marked. Problem with that is obvious: few composers today employ 'standardized' formats. Because i'm rather old school for reasons both obvious and not so obvious (i don't use computer-generated scoring programs, for example, because they all look the same...i need the beauty of handwritten scores just as much as i need what remains of this beautiful planet). The paper itself is very good quality. The staves are close together--slightly more than a quarter inch separates each stave so writing small, especially with ledger lines, can be challenging...but that's ok, i work around it! My complaint when first looking for my particular perfect score paper was that the descriptions DIDN'T mention whether the individual staves had pre-printed instrument names or not. i wanted to 'look inside' but that IMPORTANT option wasn't available. For other composers please note: i also use Carta #27 with 16 staves which have no instrument names but the staves are still the same distance apart as the staves are 16" wide instead of 10" wide with #23 so you'd have more potential 'measures' with #27. i may actually end up using #27 stacked together in twos if i require 32 staves (insane? yup!) though this might sound like overkill but passion comes first. Great product.

Exactly what I needed!
The professor for my advanced orchestration class required us to write out our orchestrations by hand, and my old sheet music paper was very tightly spaced and only had 12 lines per page. This satisfied the requirements for any ensemble I had to orchestrate for with extra space to spare. The paper is thick and sturdy, and the margins are nicely spaced, although I could have used more space for titles/tempos/dynamics/etc. at the top of the page. Huge kudos to Carta for making the paper one-sided so the ink/lead/graphite doesn't smear through pressure transfer! The only issue I had with the paper pads was that the glue holding the nice cover onto the pad was incredibly weak and came off after tearing out 3 pages from the pad, but it wasn't a big enough issue to take off any stars from the rating.

Great Manuscript paper for large orchestral works
The product works well and acts as advertised, however, the binding fell apart so the pages are sort of disconnected. In short, be careful with this product and it will be sure to deliver on your 24 stave needs.

Excellent paper
I was searching for a replacement for Dutch manuscript paper that I bought years ago, which finally ran out. This was the closest I could find, and it is very good -- nice paper, nice surface, well printed.

My favorite manuscript paper.
I have a stack of these for my orchestrations. The neutral beige color is very easy on the eyes.

Great large manuscript paper with no instrument names and clefs - free to write on.
Exactly what any orchestral composer needs, especially a romantic sized Orchestra.Item has arrived in perfect condition before, but another order and it was severely bent - almost unusable. Buyer beware.

Good score paper with some room for improvement
Good manuscript paper in a soft cover pad format featuring 26 staves per page, and 40 sheets which you can tear out.The size is a little larger than A3, and the sheets have one side with staves and one blank side so that you don't have to worry about ink bleeding through the page.Hal Leonard has a wide variety of manuscript paper, and I caution you to make sure that you are ordering the right score pad for your purposes (just visit the site of Halleonard and search for 'carta', and you will get more details about the different pads). Some of the score pads have a pre-arranged page lay-out where the instrument names for the orchestration are already written on the side, but not this one, no. 23. The pads which ARE pre-formatted usually have 'orchestral' or 'big band' added to the title, for example '26 stave orchestral score pad'.Also be aware that some pads have a portrait lay-out while others are in landscape format.Carta Score Paper no.23 is in portrait format. When you flap the pad open there's a chart on the back side of the front cover which details the different ranges and transpositions for the instruments of a traditional orchestra. The 26 staves are 8mm wide, and the space between the staves is 8.5mm.Furthermore, in the left hand corner at the bottom of each sheet the Carta logo is printed. Unfortunately, this logo is positioned a bit too close to the last stave on each sheet, and you have to make sure to write within the lines of the last stave of the page in order to avoid the logo.My advice would be a smaller logo further down the page and/or more to the left.As far as the lay-out is concerned, I wish the staves were 7mm wide so that there would have been 10.5mm space between the staves. But, regardless of my wishes, the current lay-out is fine as long as you do not write too much outside of the stave width. The paper color as well as the staves look very classy and clear. For this I would have given 5 stars, but because of the logo position on each sheet and the space between staves there's still some room for improvement, hence my 4 stars.

Just like Debussy would have used
Excellent quality, fast shipping, did not disappoint. This paper is very large and spacious. I used it to write out my Etudes-Portraits. Just like Debussy used for his manuscripts. Thanks Carta
