RV Camping in State Parks

Great Resource for RV Trip Planning
We purposely bought a modest size RV so we could camp in more state parks and national forest campgrounds. During our travels, we explore areas in detail to discover new places to camp. The RV Camping in State Parks guides lists all of the data and locations of the state parks so there is less guessing about whether we might fit into one of the sites. We still prefer to visit the parks first with our tow vehicle, however, this book has been a great guide to pointing us to all of the great state parks to camp. Often the state parks are even nicer than national parks close by and it is very nice to learn about these gems in this book before we get there!

Extremely handy to have
I bought this book before a 1500 mile RV journey and it was invaluable. There are thousands of state parks out there but only a small percentage have RV facilities. When we were deciding on a place to spend the night, opening the book to the state and seeing of there was a state park nearby was way easier than pulling out the ipad, clicking on a likely park, and then look through the website to find out there were no RV facilities. Then click on the next park and so on. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is the maps should be bigger, and I also wish the National Parks were included to make it one stop shopping. But still, this is a book I am very glad I bought.

Really Basic Info
This book gives an incredibly basic list of each state park...in a state-by-state format. It gives you the park name, the address, the phone number, whether RV/tent/electric/water/dump are available, and a really brief, (like one line) description of amenities - such as "hiking, canoe rental, and fishing".That's it...no campground maps...no insights as to private/good sites to request...no nearby points of interest...just a list of parks and most basic information.I suppose it would be helpful to look at the state map and to identify the parks in "western state X" that you might want to visit...and then to do more extensive research on your phone or on your CPU, but that's about all this book is good for, in my opinion.Maybe if you don't own a smartphone, had humble expectations, and just wanted to use the book to pull into ANY nearby state park with a water hook-up and fishing? Not quite what I had hoped for...

Great book for planning
My husband and I just returned from a 4,000-mile trip around the U.S. in a rented RV. We had no planned itinerary, and we took our two labs with us. This book was extremely useful for finding non-RV park places to camp as well as places to stop to exercise the dogs during the day. Although there is not much detail in the book about each park, there was enough for planning purposes and we could always check out the parks on line if we had phone service while we were traveling. I took other books I had bought for the trip with us, but this one was our go-to book.

Good Info on Camping in State Parks
Although this was a used book, it looked brand new. There were a few markings on some pages but didn't affect contents. The book was informative but didn't go into great detail. It did list all the state parks and showed them on a map for each state. If you needed more info, just google it. Since AAA no longer provides camping books, it was a great alternative.

Perfect for Planning
I have just purchased a motor home and am ready to go on the road. In years past, I've been to many national parks; now I want to focus on state parks. This guide looks to be a good starting point for me. Each state has a map with the park locations shown. There is a brief overview about that state's parks and general information and rules. State park government address, phone number, and Web site are given. Next is a listing of all parks with map coordinates. Finally, each park is listed with address, phone number, and general directions. Amenities are next, followed by GPS coordinates. This will be perfect to help with my daily and weekly planning as I visit from park to park.

save some money
I have used this book for a couple of years now and it has been very helpful and have saved us some money. When going south from Michigan we use the parks when convenient along our route. We also stay some extended stays because we get more out of these over private rv parks. In some of the private rv parks are really crowed with nothing to do and you cant even let out your awning.

Good place to start.
I ordered this book after reading the reviews good and not so good. The reason I wanted this book is because I have been researching state parks,in which to camp. I have found it difficult to filter through all the information on the internet as to which state parks have campgrounds. This book shows a map of each state and where the state parks with campgrounds are located. It gives a rudimentory description of what the campground has to offer. It however does not give a description of the park its self. Once I have found a park of interest I can search the internet for more information on the state park of interest.
