Advance your playing and appreciation of a musical genius
The suggested fingerings are alone worth the price of admission, offering priceless strategies for how to play sax lines on guitar, and in turn diverge from guitaristic box playing. The introduction offers great insights into Bird's improvisational approach with examples. For guitar players, the Omnibook can be daunting--highly chromatic bebop lines in non-guitar keys played on a saxophone--but Mark Voelpel has done us all a favor by making Bird's musical genius more accessible. Here's hoping Mark can publish another book like "20 Amazing Solos" that offers similar insights with tab and fingerings for other legendary sax players (Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Brecker, etc.).

I practice with the recording easily found on you tube-use my you tube to Mp3 ...
Just working on first solo Billie's bounce and find it to be very accurate. While learning, I practice with the recording easily found on you tube-use my you tube to Mp3 converter, then a slow down program to practice at slower speed and then eventually try to get up to speed. Transcriptions get the finer points of the solos like scoops, which the Omni-book does not get into. If you can't read music, it might be too difficult to get the timing-but I read music so no problem for me. This is a fantastic resource to get some serious CP jazz language under my belt. Looking forward to learning all the solos if I live long enough--I think it will get easier, once I get through the first 2 or 3. Highly recommended. Kudos to the author and to God which I believe is where the talent/gift of music ( ie: CPs' gift) comes from.

Excelent reference on bebop guitar
Excelent reference music book. The text should have included more detailed informational discography to support the solo written music examples. Nevertheless. It is an invaluable source for musicians interested in bebop guitar

Great resource to study Charlie Parker
The book is very well done, great transcriptions and analysis of every tune with some history too. Some fingerings can be change but not much, get it if you want to learn bebop with the work of the best!

A must for any guitar-playing Parker fan
The introduction to Charlie Parker's improvisational style is worth the cover price by itself. In addition, you get painstakingly detailed fingerings for Parker heads and solos--which always gave me trouble when working off of traditional rotation.
