Carib SeaEco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate, 20-Pound, Live Sand for Aquarium

I almost didn’t order it because of the reviews but I am so happy i did! I put 7 bags in a125 gallon tank over egg crate it is beautiful. Don’t Listen to all the hype about making it cloudy follow the direction put it in right out of the bad use the clarification pack that comes with it. My water was crystal clear before I even fished filling the take with water.

Beautiful sand. Definitely worth the price. Everyone has their own opinion of whether it should be washed or not and here's mine. The sand is great quality and comes with beneficial bacteria already seeded in the sand. If you wash it in sink water, you are destroying the bacteria. They are definitely charging a higher price for this benefit so you might as well take advantage of it and atleast wash it in tank water or dechlorinated water. There is also a small bag of water clearer that will help with the murkiness. This is what I did and it worked great.

I love this sand and my fish love it too. Makes it easy to clean their tanks and the waste stays on top of the sand so its easy to remove. Do not rinse this sand as it has nitrifying bacteria in it. Use the packet that comes with the sand and it will take care of the cloudiness. It should be ready for fish in 12 to 24 hours.

I have ordered this item two times now, and despite a screw up on amazon's part, I will probably order it again. If you have Cichlids, and are considering this item, don't listen to what others say about rinsing the sand before adding it to your tank! It specifically says "Do not rinse" on the packaging, and for a reason. Those who say it clouded their tank for multiple days most likely failed to read the instructions on the "Biomagnet" packet included in each bag. The instructions say to mix it into a jar of water from your aquarium, then to add it slowly to the tank after adding all the sand. My tank was crystal clear in LESS THAN 24 HOURS! It looks amazing in my tank, and definitely raised the Ph needed to house African Cichlids. I would highly recommend this product.

Yes, it did cloud my water, but guess what? It was full of beneficial bacteria and it cleared in 24 hours. Nice mix of white and black as advertised. Perfect for my 90 gallon African cichlid tank.
