Awesome book!
...so awesome I wish I would have purchased the paper copy instead of the digital. If you could give a s*** about Archaeology then this book is not for you. However, if Archaeology and new groundbreaking technology is an interest, then this is a fascinating book. I first became aware of this topic while watching a show on the Discovery channel that followed Dr, Parcak and her quest to get a possible pyramid excavated, using the data she gathered from satellite remote sensing, which allows one to "see" beneath the surface. This was one of the most exciting shows I had watched regarding archeological finds, in years and Dr Parcak's enthusiasm is contagious, which carries over into her book. She also addresses ethics and if one looks beyond the specific subject matter, the book is also a guideline on how to be successful in any profession. I can only hope there are more specials and books to come :)

Interesting coverage of a new aid to Archeology
The Book covers using long distance satellite imaging to determine sites for archaeology and give an idea of wheresome of the more rewarding areas might be if the entire site is not to be dug and as by itself archaeology cannot preserveall levels of a site as higher levels are always removed to reach lower ones it can document upper levels in picturesas the dig continues Has good pictures of a variety of different sites

Outline for starting a Project
The book starts with a review of remote sensing history, then examples of what you're looking for in imagery. There are great comparison charts of what each satellite provides in imagery, costs, a site checklist, how to establish signatures and also some interesting examples of ethics in the field. I donated the book to a local college that does a lot of archaeology and has a good remote sensing class. I only wish that the imagery had been in color and of a little better resolution, but not really necessary for the information she is imparting.

Sarah did not discover these technologies but she has done a great job of making them useful and to bring them out into the open. She writes well and covers a lot of ground. Hope she continues with more books. As an unintended consequence of her research she has given authorities by far their best tool to monitor grave robbing which with all the chaos in Middle East is rampant right now.

Now I see
Thank you for explaining the new technology in satellite pictures and lidar mapping. I expect that there will be many great discoveries pending.

Good starter info.
It was written in 2008 and I would guess is a little behind what has been accomplished in the last 8 years. I know the author must be very busy but I believe an update would also sell.

Well written
Enjoyed her matter of fact way of writing. Very informative compilation of the art of remote sensing. I think she is doing a wonderful scientifically proper approach to her efforts in her field and expressed it very well in this book.

Satellite Remote Sensing for Archaeology
This technical book is the right one that shows how to use an additional tool to archaeologists' arsenal to find more minute details about ancient sites. I had seen the author's special on Discovery on how she has employed satellite remote sensing in Egypt and I was curious to find out exactly what methods and software Ms. Parcae had used to reach her results. The book has answered my queries.

Consiglio
Sia per chi inizia sia per chi già è un po' experienced con il remote sensing è un ottimo manuale. Consigliato.
