Product Description The Thai government hires a group of Chinese mercenaries to capture a powerful drug lord from the Golden Triangle. The mercenaries manage to capture the drug lord, but soon find themselves pursued by his forces, and the forces of a bitter Thai officer. The Chinese mercenaries are vastly outnumbered, and as their numbers begin to dwindle, their desperation pulls them into a corner as their enemies close in on them. Review John Woo's first contemporary action film is an entertaining bloodbath... --TV GuideThe film may be over 30 years old but the carnage is still unflinching and mounted with viscous verve. From bloody squibs, burnings and beheadings, Heroes Shed No Tears holds nothing back in its onslaught of impressively staged combat. [O]ne would be doing themselves an injustice in not checking out this early, but highly entertaining action flick from the director. --Andrew Skeates, Far East Films

WILD, YET HUMOROUS SHOOTOUTS
This reminds me of a parody like Trauma films. Twenty guys get shot down at once. The spear bends in the middle cause it was rubber. Dialogue is fun too. John Woo is like the Sam Packinpah of Chinese movies. And when the main characters get shot, they get hit like a dozen times.

😃😃😃
A "trying to break out of the shell of mediocrity and head towards greatness" John Woo film. It's a wreck in terms of pacing, acting and story but still it's a fun action movie with bloody violence and all that crapola.

Glad this finally got an American release
I’m so glad Film Movement is doing restorations of overlooked films such as this. I’m a huge John Woo fan, and this is one of his films that has been harder to acquire (at least in America) compared to his more popular Hong Kong work (The Killer, Hard Boiled). Here’s hoping to more widespread restorations and releases of Woo’s movies and overlooked Hong Kong cinema in general.

Terrible movie
My 1 star is for the movie itself not Amazon or Film Movement, who did a fine job with the transfer.I am a John Woo fan and have been a long time. Sorry to say, this movie is awful and it's not even worth it for fans of Woo. The movie is a snooze when it's not disgusting. The movie has no character development whatsoever. Characters disappear and reappear randomly often. Lots of continuity errors, dialogue that merely exists for the purpose of bring character A to go to point B. Terrible direction awkwardly injects humor when it doesn't fit (a character can play dumb after been in a heavy bloody battle). And also, the movie is a bore. I did not like or find any character interesting. The movie has pacing which acts like a spudding truck. And a very slow, very annoying and very out of place love making montage scene which involves multiple naked women.John Woo's next film A Better Tomorrow is vastly vastly superior in every way - acting, direction, storytelling, editing - and is the best - and I believe only - place to start if you're interested in John Woo, a gifted, talented and influential action and actor director. This movie however is a complete waste of time. Just pretend it doesn't exist and skip to A Batter Tomorrow and continue up through his filmography and don't look back at this. I would have to give this movie zero stars.

Good stuff for the hardcore John Woo fans
I've been a fan of John Woos heroic bloodshed films since I was a teenager but managed to have never seen this film.I'd recommend it mainly for people who are already devout John Woo fans. The fairly simplistic plot is about mercenaries trying to capture a brutal drug lord in The Golden Triangle. Its not as entertaining as his later films like The Killer but the film offers some great action sequences and it's fairly entertaining. If you're already a converted John Woo fan it's worth picking up. You can see his style start to come together and its not bad.The blu ray offers a great HD transfer and I'm glad they finally gave this a legit release in the USA.
