Simple, low cost, accurate, comfortable, great size, works great
Model 1427, from 2010. Not much more to say than my title. I have tried it with XP SP3 and Windows 7, both it just works without having to do anything. Movements are smooth and the blue tracking seems to work better on more surfaces than the red ones I have used. Go figure. I love how the micro "nano" receiver stores right on the bottom of the mouse if needed. Mouse is very comfortable. Nice medium-small size for laptop case, but not so small that it doesn't feel right. Wheel is quiet and has a nice feel both for clicking and scrolling. I haven't had it long enough to see if the battery life is good. Has an easy to use physical slider on/off power button on the bottom for travel.Update: Maybe it was the Duracell battery it came with, but my first battery change was just today after only about 3 weeks! Come on, far cry from "up to 8 months". I use it near daily, but other wireless mice by Logitech that I have used, have always lasted at least 6 months for me. So I wasn't expecting 8 months. But 3 weeks? I just put new Energizer batteries in it, so we will see if it was just the included batteries. I hope it is. I shouldn't have to use the switch on the bottom every time I stop using the mouse. If I had to do that, I would be switching it off 10+ times a day, and that would just be pointless. Seems the switch would only be for traveling and storage use. Otherwise it should be smart enough to sleep when idle.If this 2nd time doesn't last a ton longer, I will just go back to a wired mouse and just use this wireless one ONLY for travel. But I really hope it was just the included batteries.Update 2: 2012.08.18 The battery life appears to have only been a big issue with the batteries it came with. New Kirkland brand batteries last a long time, I haven't measured it exactly, but many months vs the 3 weeks I got with the batteries it came with. So I am happy. I still use this mouse with several laptops and my HTPC.Update 3: 2013.09.01, Another year of perfect use with this mouse. I take it when traveling, use it daily with a laptop at home and my HTPC. It gets a lot of use. Battery life is still great when using quality batteries. Scroll wheel and buttons all function as good as new and it's almost 3 years old with a lot of use. Now using it with Windows 8 as well.Update 4: 2013.09.04, I know have received my 2nd Loch Ness Gray mouse from Amazon. It is suppose to be the exact same product. But it's not. I won't detract any stars though. As for the most part it's the same. And as far as using the mouse, it's still great. They changed a few things. The model I reviewed above is model 1427, which I bought in 2010. The mouse I just got today, is model 1571.1427:* Has a slot for the nano receiver with an eject button.* Scroll wheel has noticed movement, with a slightly audible sound when scrolling. Ultra quiet.1571:* Slot for nano receiver is UNDER the batter cover and no eject button.* Scroll wheel has noticed movement, but is completely silent. You literally have to put the mouse next to your ear to kind of hear it. Same feel under the finger as the 1427 model. The Bluetrack "hole" sensor is different and smaller on the 1571, but it seems to track exactly the same as the 1427 on the surfaces I have tried, including wood textures. Hopefully the batter life is just as good on the 1527. I wish Amazon didn't get rid of user-uploaded photos so I could show the differences side by side.Another note, someone I know just got the Magenta Pink one from Amazon in the mail today and it is using the same design as the 1427 mouse. So it appears there are at least 2 designs currently being sold under the same "3500" model name.

Great mouse, even for big hands
Great mouse, even for big hands. Use a mouse with your laptop. The small finger pad on a laptop is great for travel, but when at home or doing a lot of work on your laptop, use a mouse. It's a lot easy to get work done too. Also, by using a mouse, you'll have less wear and tear on your laptops buttons. Avoid wearing out your laptops mouse buttons. I have seen a handful of laptops with broken mouse buttons. Wear out an external mouse. I wear out at least one mouse a year. I like the Microsoft Wireless 3500 mouse. It's wireless, all you do is plug in a small USB receiver in your computer, and it works. The 3500 is "Blue Track Technology," the light coming out of the bottom is blue, not red like other laser mice. "Blue Track Technology" works on just about any surface, so you do not need a mouse pad. It even works great on bedspreads and pillows. And the "Blue Track Technology" is SAFE FOR THE EYES. I think that's very important especially if you have children in the house. The 3500 runs a few months on one AA battery, just a click of the thumb turns off the mouse when you turn off your computer. I know it sounds like a hassle now, but it's not. When you click shutdown on your computer, simply push the little slider on the bottom of the mouse to turn it off. The 3500 is a small mouse, so it's great for a woman's small hand. But I love it too, it works great with my big hand. The 3500 works great for travel too. Just pull the USB receiver out of the computer (no need to disconnect), and slide the USB receiver into the bottom of the mouse, takes about two seconds.

Easily the best mouse I've ever used
At a price tag of 60+ dollars, this piece of plastic seems very much overpriced. However, try as I might, I cannot find another mouse that functions as well as this one does, and I've tried multiple others. So, having worn out my first two MS 3500 mice, I bit my lip and bought another one. Works wonderfully, but again, I just wish it wasn't so darn expensive.
