Cheaper than Hebrew school!
Carin tells it like it is and makes this book a quick read, but leaves you thinking and laughing out loud. Her "schtick" and delivery is so candid . She makes the material very fun to learn about. I learned more from Carin regarding Jewish customs, holiday foods, etc. than I did after 10 years in Hebrew school. I bought it for my single sister, but much of the book also appealed to me- married with 2 kids!

A great book!
I loved this book. I’ve had it in my possession for a while and finally dove in to read and I read it all in one day. I’m a Jewish convert that’s no longer in a big Jewish community where there’s an over abundance of things to do or learn. This book helped me remember things I’ve already forgotten or didn’t know or just made me laugh. She includes an everything you need to know chapter about each holiday big or small. I love the extra touch of recipes, some I’ll be making eventually, as well as all the words you must know in Yiddish or “heebonics”. I also appreciate the rich girl humor and pop culture references. It made me want to be in the Catskills.

If Carrie Bradshaw were Jewish...
If Carrie Bradshaw were Jewish, she would have written this book. Luckily, Carin Davis is Jewish, and she HAS written this book! This book celebrates what fun it can be to be a single Jewish woman, seeking to highlight those aspects of modern Jewish religion and culture that, in some ways, make the world a perfect playground for this demographic. In good fun, the book also offers up some new traditions, such as "Yom Alone" (which celebrates the virtues of "not bringing someone home for the holiday") and the re-Bat Mitzvah (in the spirit of the fact that "Bat Mitzvahs are wasted on the young").In addition to great story-telling on the adventures of being a single Jewish woman, as well as hilariously clever English/Hebrew/Yiddush wordplays, this book also offers useful substance. It provides a succinct, accessible, and useful overview of Jewish holidays and other cultural traditions. It also includes some delicious recipes throughout (which are also written in a very fun and accessible way) and even a glossary of "Heebonics" at the end.I already bought this book as a birthday present for a friend--can't wait to give it to her to honor her 30th birthday! This book would also be great for anybody who wants to gain more insights on the cultural aspects of being a single Jewish woman and/or dating Jewish men (at least from one lightheated perspective!). It makes for a very fun read to treat one's own self to as well. Enjoy, and l'chaim!
