The subjectivity of scent
I totally expected to love this fragrance. Instead, after only spritzing myself with one spray, after a few hours, I scrubbed myself clean with soap and baking soda and then sprayed myself with a smoky cade-dominant fragrance because I could still smell this and I couldn’t bare to any more. That’s about as bad a description as one could conjure up, and yet I am giving it four stars. Fragrance is one of the most subjective experiences. This is fragrance that falls into the “floriental” category (think Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, a more well-known fragrance nowadays). It is rose/geranium and iris dominant with a citrus-y tang and a somewhat amber heart. All the notes are blended to the point of my not being able to pick them out well, but I’m no “nose.” In a way, for me, the quality of being well blended makes the sum of the parts less than the whole, and I found it to be cloying to the point of having to scrub. But I do think that’s just me. On a test strip, I loved the scent. On me, it just doesn’t work. It was overpowering and tiring to smell, even when the initial phase had died down.I have thinking about my bad experience with this scent since yesterday and can’t really understand it. I love florientals. I wear them happily. What about this scent bothered me so? I can not put my finger on it. I do think it suffers from a lack of warmth. The sharpness of citrus, though it doesn’t come through as a particular note, never fades as one would expect from a top note. But again, I have loved and worn other fragrances with a sour tang, such as Lutens’ Fille de Berlin. Yet that scent is a rose soliflore. Can I recommend this fragrance? No. But I feel confident that this is a good one for the right person, though there are many other florientals out there that would satisfy the brief. Piguet makes two sterling fragrances, Bandit and Fracas, that are must tries for any perfumista. Calypso? Not really.Lastly, though this isn’t a super pricey fragrance, it isn’t inexpensive. The packaging and bottle are so low end that it cheapens the experience. My hubby said, “Looks like something you’d buy at the drug store, not a luxury product.” If Piguet wants to expand their customer base, they should definitely consider a re-vamp. The cap is so terribly cheap looking. That is a minor detail, but it does add or detract a lot from one’s overall experience.

Old school perfume
This Robert Piguet Calypso Eau de Parfum is a very strong, very concentrated perfume. It is highly complex, very powdery and has major notes of rose and some notes of patchouli and rose lovers will really enjoy it.This is the type of perfume that reminds me of the older generations and would makes the perfect gift for a grandmother birthday. Of course, when it comes to taste and opinion, everyone is different but this was definitely not my kind of perfume as I found it lacking the fresh notes that I usually prefer.

A Very Powdery Rose Fragrance
This is an oriental rose base fragrance that is more powdery than rose. If you're looking for a rather strong rose fragrance, then this isn't the one. That doesn't mean that this isn't amazing as well. The blend of geranium, mandarin orange, patchouli, and roses are very well done. You can definitely smell the geranium upon first spraying, but the blend is so well done that it's relatively hard to distinguish the other scents. It's a very classy, powdery fragrance and maybe should have been classified more as a geranium fragrance than rose.Since I love more powdery fragrances, this was a hit with me, but I really was looking forward to the rose. Overall I would give this a 4 because the sillage on this is ok, and the longevity I found doesn't last as well as his Oud Delice or even the Nuit Velours, but still a great purchase.Calypso by Robert Piguet is a Oriental Floral fragrance for women. Calypso was launched in 2010. The nose behind this fragrance is Aurelien Guichard. Top notes are Geranium and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Bulgarian Rose, Rose and Orris Root; base notes are Suede, Patchouli, Amber and Daim.

Robert Piguet Calypso Eau de Parfum Spray Review
I really wanted to love this one as it started with a lovely soft powdery smell. But unfortunately on my skin I pick up an under smell that I just don't care for. It reminds me of something an old lady would wear. I know it all depends on a person's smell preference and others might enjoy it but it's just not favorite.

Robert Piguet eau de parfum for women
I have 3 Robert Piguet perfumes for women, live them all. Except this one. I don't know what I'm smelling as I can't differentiate one scent from another in this formula. But I do know that this is a classic example of the infamous eau de old lady scent we all love to hate. And it is STRONG in the beginning. It goes from that to a powdery old lady, and then dries down to a subtle old lady. Of all the fragrances of course it would be the one fragrance that I dont want to linger while the one's I do want to never seem to for long enough.

Complex, Nice Dry-Down, Very Concentrated ...
First, if you know this perfumer, you know that though this bottle is small, it will last for such a long time! So, know that this small bottle is truly concentrated. For instance, with some of my favorite fragrances, I spray the scent three or four times (often once on my wrists, once in my hair, once at my neck, and then a spray in the air to walk through). But that applies to fruity, tropical scents. This French scent is literally "one and done." So I gently spray this on my wrists and then place my wrists equally as gently on my neck at the pulse points. (I don't rub my wrists together or against my neck since I've read that's not ideal). So go really, really slow with this. It is very layered, very "big," and very concentrated. And, for sure, if you are used to the light, fruity scents that I'm used to, this will instantly seem too complex, too large, too floral, too spicy ... basically all of the "too"s. But, if you give this a chance to dry-down, you are going to find more distinct and powdery notes. So be patient with that first spray. Like all very complex perfumes, this scent will change with body chemistry and time. Ultimately, I think you may really like it for evenings out.Give this a try, be patient with it, and really, really take it easy. Just a little bit creates a huge aura of fragrance.Definitely recommended!
