PLAYING WITH THIS OVERLORD EXPANSION ALLOWS YOU TO PLAY IN A GRAND SCALE
If you are a true fan of Memoir 44 I highly suggest getting a copy of this OVERLORD EXPANSION as soon as you can. During 2017 and early 2018 it was difficult to find copies of this expansion but as of Summer 2018 and currently in 2019 this expansion is still available. Now let's look at what's in the box:Contents:One (1) updated instruction manual or Rules Booklet for playing in OVERLORD mode, covering play on the Eastern Front and the Pacific Theater, as well as with the original Air Pack expansion. Two (2) decks of 64 cards each, specifically redesigned for Overlord playOne Hundred seventy-eight (178) flat Chits or Tokens to represent German, American, Soviet and Japanese army figures: Infantry, Tanks, Artillery in case you don't have all the required plastic miniatures.Eight (8) additional Memoir '44 dice in PLASTIC. The previous version of this expansion included wooden dice, the update is in plastic format using the same symbology. You must remember that this is an expansion and NOT A STAND-ALONE GAME.To play in OVERLORD MODE with this expansion you will need:One (1) original copy of the Memoir '44 board gameAt least one (1) of the six (6) OVERLORD BATTLE MAPS expansions released up to 2019.OVERLORD BATTLE MAPS:1) HEDGEROW HELL (CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT but available in PDF format from the manufacturer)2) TIGERS IN THE SNOW (CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT but available in PDF format from the manufacturer)3) SWORD OF STALINGRAD (CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT but available in PDF format from the manufacturer)4) DISASTER AT DIEPPE (CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT but available in PDF format from the manufacturer)5) THE BATTLES OF KHALKHIN GOL (AVAILABLE here on amazon as of 4 March 2019)6) THROUGH JUNGLE AND DESERT (AVAILABLE here on amazon as of 4 March 2019)You can find more BATTLE MAPS in PDF format on the website provided by the manufacturer in the instruction manual. Be sure to register your product for timely updates.I very much like the OVERLORD MODE RULES because they allow up to eight (8) players to battle their wits against each other. The rules for Commander-in-Chief and Field Generals are clearly explained in the instruction manual and I highly suggest you read it fully so that you can enjoy playing this game in this epic form. The OVERLORD COMMAND CARD decks are beautiful. These cards are the 2nd generation of Memoir 44 Command Cards. An upgrade from the original base game Command Cards. The inclusion of an additional set of eight (8) dice is brilliant. Very thoughtful of the manufacturers.Besides purchasing this OVERLORD EXPANSION, I highly recommend getting the following expansions for this game:1) EASTERN FRONT (this is an absolute must-play) and as of 2019 still AVAILABLE.2) WINTER WARS (this is an absolute must-play) and as of 2019 still AVAILABLE.3) BREAKTHROUGH KIT MAPS4) SPECIAL OPERATIONS EXPANSION PACKS (these are an absolute must-play) and as of 2019 still AVAILABLE.DISCLAIMER:The battle shown in the pictures is from the TIGERS IN THE SNOW BATTLE MAPS SERIES 1This expansion does not come with the plastic miniatures, you must use those provided in your MEMOIR '44 base game and those come unpainted. I have painted each and every single one of these plastic miniatures as you can see in the pictures shown in this review. This expansion comes with the COMMAND CARDS (OVERLORD) but does not include the SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMBAT CARDS.Enjoy and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

Great game for kids even.
My grandsons love playing this game. I just wish there were more expansion packs. I am running out of options to be able to get them new ones.

Great addiction to a great game
Listen to me: Get it and play it only with 2 players... Huge map, lots of fun... But becomes boring when you try the 8 players version.

The Overlord Decks are the Main Addition in this Expansion
Overview/Summary:I would be more inclined to get a second copy of the base game first (for 20 more dollars or so), and only get this if you really want the two nice decks it includes. I explain why in more detail below. I will not cover the rules here, just the components.Card Decks:The decks are modified versions of the original deck, with the instructions printed right on the card regarding when and where on the board and by whom the card can be played. This makes it easy for newcomers. The iconography and text on the cards can be a bit small, but players will pretty much know what the card does after a few play-throughs. The cards also have a blue or red background, which corresponds to a Tactics card or Section card, respectively. This allows you to sort out your hand quickly, since Field Generals (one for each flank) can only receive one Tactics card and may not receive another card that turn. The rule book comes with a section on modifications for the Japanese army, Soviet army, and the Air pack. However, I think the rule book could have been clearer regarding certain exceptions, or the writers could have at least demonstrated a sample turn or two.Dice and Cardboard Counters:The 8 dice are a nice addition, but if you have two sets, you could get buy with that much (8+8). I am not sure what I think about the cardboard unit counters right now. So far I have just played (and intend to play) Western front Overlords with two sets of Germans and U.S. I could see that the counters could come in handy at first if I don't want to play too many Overlords of, say, the Eastern front. Then I just put in the cardboard units without needing to buy a second Eastern Front expansion.Enjoyment::I have played a couple Overlord games solo, and one game 1v1 as of this writing. I enjoy the format a great deal, and am going to suggest this format for the next game night. If you like the regular game, you will certainly enjoy this format as well! I love how the maps look with the units and terrain are spread across 5.5 feet (or so) on the table. I am glad they produced this. I think it is more of a M44 "luxury" item, but I will definitely get a lot of use out of it, even with solitaire plays. No Scenarios:There were no Overlord scenarios included in the package, but you can find plenty official and unofficial ones on the Days of Wonder website. DoW also produces large maps with printed terrain. I have not used one of these, but they look neat in the pictures.Summary:My preference would be to buy two base sets first, and then get this mainly for the nice decks.

great system, nice to have
great system, nice to have , kids 6+ can play little problems, and a bit of help, 8 and over and they can read cards well.

Not exactly what I was expecting.
This is still an decent value but I was under the impression that the boards, and senarios would be included but they were not. I went back and looked more carefully at the description and realized that was not the case. Still a decent value but I would get some of the other expansions before this one like the Mediterranean, Pacific, and Eastern Front. This would be the last one I would get.
