One of My Favorite Stories
My only complaint about this book is that it changed one item from the original text. It used cheese instead of malt. I understand that today's children probably have no idea what malt is, but I like books left the way they were.

great illustrations for a classic rhyme
I loved this rhyme as a child and would read it over and over so I bought this to pass down to my two sons. The illustrations are great and add a fun quirky element to the book. My son's especially love to be read the page that describes all the different cheeses Jack might have in his house. They crack up laughing at the description of the different cheeses, ie stinky and gooey! My only quirk with the book is that the whole rhyme should be read with no interuptions to get the full effect and it's hard to do so when they want to stop and talk about the illustrations. After you've read it to them a few times and let them explore the pictures then you can go back and read it all in one go. This is a marvelous rhyme to share with children.

Terrifying
Looking and reading this book is scary. It looks like a serial killer put it together and it reads very abnormal.

Book just as described
Since this is the same author as "There Was an old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" I was a little disappointed in this book. Not nearly as fun and not a hole book. Still cute tho and fun for the little ones...

Great Book! Wonderfully Illustrated!!
You can't go wrong with anything written and/or illustrated by Simms Taback. We bought this originally because I fondly remembered the story from my own childhood, but this surpasses that earlier edition. It is beautifully illustrated and captivating for our kids. They especially like it when you speed read it to them!! We've worn out our first version, but will be ordering another one. My Highest Recommendation!!

Updated and beautifully illustrated story
I loved this story as a child and I am now a 73 year old grandma and retired primary teacher. This is so readable at all levels and I wish I were still in the classroom to have some fun with the kids. I would challenge them to read the listings from the estate agents and choose their favourite house (and say why); have some cheese tastings; interpret the different jobs of a judge; add to the list of tools and say how they are used., etc. etc....Brilliant book for a primary teacher and thank you Simms Tabak. I am going to have such fun with my 8-year-old granddaughter!

Very messy, untidy layout
I got this for my granddaughter because another of her books refers to the rhyme and she didn’t know it. There weren’t many different editions of the book to choose from so I selected this which looked the best. Unfortunately I didn’t like the layout at all, it was very messy, though my granddaughter was happy. Given what I know now I probably would not have bought it if I’d seen a view of the inside pages.

Simms tabak does it again!
If anyone knows of Simms Tabak then they will know that the books are just great. Kids love the repitition in the stories and we also have the old lady who swallowed the fly book and dvd. Perfect for sequencing in Junior classes as well as repetition and rhyme. I liked these stories when I was a child too, can't go wrong with a classic. Perhaps not for those with special needs as the book styling is a bit zany...
