The project went together well, but he would not have been able to figure it out by himself--the roof halves had to be set a certain way, and it required some adult visualization. My daughter and I put this together ans painted it with acrylic paint. We hung it in out yard last spring. And we use it daily to feed the birds. It's never been brought inside, even in the rain. The only thing I added during construction was wood glue. My daughter, who was 4 at the time, really enjoyed hammering the pieces together with the nails. It's easy and sturdy and lasts.
