Outstanding bedtime read. More, please!
I have been a lonnng time Amazon shopper...yet this is the first time I feel compelled to write a review. I read this to my 6 yo grandson as his bedtime read aloud. He absolutely loved it. He often begged me to read two or three chapters a night, instead of the usual one chapter per night. This book gave my grandson exactly what he needs: an interesting, well-written modern-day protagonist that looks like him. In fact, all of the main characters look like him. That Bakari Katari Johnson is both human (flawed) and superhuman is icing on the cake. These are regular children living (somewhat) regular lives. Black people do have those (regular lives and experiences, I mean). In short, we need more books like this one. I am hoping it's the first in a very long series.

My 7 year old son loved it!
It is SO important that young brown children are exposed to stories that normalize them, and not marginalize them. My son just devoured the book, and turned around and wanted to start it over. The book became a main focal point in our reading time, and we would take turns personifying the characters' voices as we took turns reading! Great fun!

Big hit in 3rd grade
I teach 3rd grade. I bought this as a read aloud for after recess. All of my students are African-American and I try to expose them to different genres with African American lead characters. MY STUDENTS LOVED THIS BOOK!! They loved it so much, that they asked if there was a movie made about the book. One of my students even said he couldn't wait to see Zenon defeated on the big screen!

Cool book says my son
Dad: What makes this book 5 stars? Son (8 y/o): "Because their is another kid that can go to another dimension that is freezing cold. Also, he can make portals that he can go in and out of. One of the ice zombies once all the powers to himself." Dad: Who do you think should read this book? Son: "kids my age should read it."

Great story
Grandmother and Grandson are reading these books together. Purchased as a gift from Grandma to Grandson. I know he will enjoy it. A great Zombie children's book. He's a huge fan of the Walking Dead so this is a great change of pace for him especially now that school has started.

Eight year old son is a big fan!
My eight year old son loved this book and has reread it more than once. That's a huge endorsement from my somewhat picky reader! I'd love to see more children's books from this author.

We Need More Diverse Books Like This..
Great combination of middle school woes and superhero/scifi genre. Sometimes getting through a school day feels like the end of the world at the hand of ice zombies...
