The Mule at their BEST!
Call me crazy, but the Mule has never been better than they are on these performances! Up there with the Woody days, but of course the power trio format is hard to compare with the current foursome ensemble in some ways. But make no mistake, they are NOT over the hill! Warren leads the band to unprecedented heights of intensity in this outing! All four guys are first-rate musicians and mature individuals, but still these performances are their way of sticking a giant birdie in the face of today's mainstream "music" scene of hip hop, auto-tune, EDM, which garbage sadly rules the charts today. Warren is one of the few current saviors of pure musical talent...and talented beyond comprehension at that...let's be grateful that he and the rest of the Mule guys are still here cranking out great rock music at its finest!!Another thing I love about this collection is that there is little overlap between the 2 CD/DVD package and the regular 2 CD set. I bought the latter without knowing about the former, and initially I was upset that I didn't get the audio/video package instead, but as it turns out, the CD tracks on the combo are almost all different from the regular 2 CD package, so needless to say I snatched up both...I highly recommend other fans doing the same if they haven't already!A MUST HAVE for all Mule fans and fans of great "Neo Classic Rock", as keyboardist Danny Louis so aptly describes their music! For comparison purposes, I call the Mule a combination of Rush, Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers...if you haven't tested their waters yet, I highly recommend you do...they have a great catalog of music!!

Disappointing Performance
I am a big fan of Warren Hayes and have enjoyed watching/listening to him with The Allman Brothers Band, especially the Live At Great Woods DVD from 1991 when he first started with them. It had to have been difficult for him to try to fill the shoes of Duane Allman, but I thought he did a great job there. Live at the Beacon Theatre (2003) with Derek Trucks substituting for Dickie Betts didn't work so well for me, but it was more of an incompatible mix of guitar styles (for the Allman Bros Band); Trucks is a fine guitar player in his own right - his style just didn't fit. So, back to this DVD, I can't define exactly what was missing for me; there were good performances from all the musicians including Warren Hayes so maybe it was the song selection. It may have been that I was expecting something along the heartfelt blues style of "Woman Across the River" or "Rockin' Horse" in which it seems like he could have lived and felt the experiences he sang about. This DVD, to me, seemed more like an obligation to fulfill his contract and make some money than a performance he enjoyed. Your mileage may differ.

GOV'T MULE ENOUGH SAID
I've followed the MULE since I first saw them at a small club in Bradenton, Fl and never stopped. This is one of the best albums that they have done. I have almost all of their albums but Mule is at their best live just as I believe the band I grew up with the Allman Brothers Band were. Amazing CD/DVD combo. Can't wait for next album!!!! UPDATE Have not stopped listening to or watching this since I got it when it came out. This package is a greatest hits package but they have so much more. I always had the Allman Brothers Fillmore East as the Best Live Performance Ever but this Show Was Special with sound and film. My opinion My Number ONE LIVE ALBUM. So to Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Danny Louis and Jorgen Carlsson BRING ON THE MUSIC and We'll Keep Coming Back

Where's My Mule!!!
Holy Crap, What a GREAT SET!! DVD'S are Great! Sound is Great! Show was Great! Extras are Great! Have been Joneson for another Mule DVD and this one does not disappoint. Some of the interviews still make me sad when Warren and Matt talk about Woody. I Still put in "Rising Low" about once a year. So, I've been at several of the shows that they made DVD's from.... The Orpheum show from "Tales of Two Cities" and the Orpheum again with "Dark Side of the Mule"..... I wasn't at the Capitol Theater for this one but I sure wish I was. Warren and the Boys Never disappoint. Never!! One small critique ... many of the shots of Matt Abts drumming don't match up with the sound ... but who really cares. By the way, a 2 cd and 2 dvd set for 12 bucks.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

Another quality live album
After a couple of years listening to Gov't Mule, I came to grips with the fact that live albums are the meat and bread of the bands catalogue. They release these quality live releases so frequently that it's really quite hard to avoid them. What's great about these albums is that they usually have different set lists, lots of improvisations and plenty of their own musical themes through out. Some will be more mellow, others will be bluesier, jazzier and others will rock harder. It makes the whole experience more interesting and exactly why I didn't hesitate to pick up the new release, Bring On The Music - Live at The Capitol Theatre 2.Bring On The Music - Live at The Capitol Theatre 2 is a double live album recorded on April 27th and 28th, 2018. The record was mixed by Geordie Johnson and mastered by Greg Clalbi of Sterling Sound. The 5.1 mix was handled by Ryan Smith, also of Sterling Sound. The album features a great list of songs from the unique opener Hammer & Nails, the laid back jam, Thorazine Shuffle, the classic Blind Man in the Dark as well as other more well known songs like, Revolution Come Revolution Go. It's a good sounding heavy hitting set with a lot of dynamics and style contrasts. The production has been handled very well with the band sounding very powerful and raw in sound. The mastering thankfully isn't too loud and is one of Gov't Mule's better sounding live albums. If you're in any way doubting the bands performance from these shows, don't. Gov't Mule do what they do best and do it with excellent precision and expert musicianship. Every beat and groove is solid, every melody is beautiful and every note has a point, even if it was completely improvised on the spot. Technically speaking, it brings absolutely nothing new to the table, especially if you have many of Gov't Mule's previous live albums. But that isn't what we look for in these kind of albums. We want consistency and professionalism, you get those qualities in droves here.My only real gripe with Bring On The Music - Live at The Capitol Theatre 2 is the simple fact that the packaging isn't very good. The record comes with two CDs and two DVDs. Because of this, I was expecting to see a fat boy case when it arrived in the post. Unfortunately this was not the case. Instead of coming in one of those grotesque but practical monstrosities, the album is packaged in one of those annoyingly tight cardboard sleeves. It feels like you're going to rip them no matter how gentle you are. This is quite literally the only complaint I have from owning this record. It's otherwise a fantastic live album and a product any fan of the band would want. I also recommend this for fans of '70s blues rock. It's very much in the same vein as guys like Hendrix, Rory Gallagher and The Allman Brothers Band (for good reason). You just can't go wrong, in my opinion.

Beat live music from Gov't Mule so far.
This is the best live music from Gov't Mule so far, and they have released a lot of live material. I have to agree with the previous reviewer, it great to hear them concentrate on their own music for a change, though they have done some awesome covers. I am disappointed that 'Soulshine' is only included as an extra on the DVD, performed during a soundcheck/rehearsal. Just one complaint, why is the DVD concert interrupted by interviews, I find this annoying, I am enjoying a concert only for it to be interrupted, things like that should be left till the end.

Only one regret
Pity Cortez isn't featured here,I can't hear that often enough! But....you never know what to expect from the Mule, and here is a great selection, old and new.I don't think there's a better group out there, and I've been a fan for the lifetime of them, perhaps the best band in the world--no kidding--today.The true flagship of what was,and should always bema blend of rock, soul, jazz, country, and blues,a cocktail that has all the good, and none of the bitter aftertaste of those lesser imitators. With Gov't Mule, and Derek Trucks, you have the best of the best, real music, real commitment, and these shows?Perfect example.

Bang for bucks from the Mule!!
Gov't Mule deliver consistently high quality output. These boys are grafters, and they don't take any prisoners here. The music is no nonsense rock 'n' roll with a very classic rock sensibility. They have an embarrassment of riches in the songs that they have to draw on in their live set. They are undiminished in their commitment to high quality live performance, and a double cd, and a double dvd in this edition makes it a Mule fan's must.
