I wish I hadn’t waited so long to make the change from spring water delivery to this filter.
After more than twenty years of having 5 gallon bottles of spring water delivered, the water started to have a strange taste/odor, so I canceled my delivery service and started looking for alternatives and the New York Times Wirecutter review recommended this one for removal of chlorine, plastics, and metals at a low price. Installation was straightforward (although I wish the lettered parts were included in the numbered diagram) and immediately after the recommended 10 minute flush out period my tap water, which is not horrible but has a chlorine taste, tasted great. I plan to fill a 3 gallon glass water cooler bottle with this filtered water to use with my existing cooler so I always have cold and hot water available as usual. My yearly cost for drinking water will be reduced by about 70% once I factor in the cost of replacing the filters every six months. Highly recommend!

USE PLUMBER’S TAPE ON THREADS WHEN INSTALLING
I have just finished installing my unit this morning and cannot yet attest to its longevity, but I can say it looks nice and was relatively simple to install. IMPORTANTLY for anyone considering this product but concerned about reviews mentioning leaks upon installation, I want to suggest everyone to spend a few more dollars on some plumber’s thread tape. This is a thin plastic, not truly a tape as it has no adhesive, but will attach to itself. You wrap it around the threading 2-3 times at each connection point and this should prevent any leaks. When I first installed the unit, I had leaks from the brass t-connector as well as the connection from the white pipe to the faucet, but once I added this tape there were no more leaks. Save yourself a headache and just get the plumbers tape and use it from the start. I bought this tape years ago to replace my shower valves and it has proven useful numerous times. Bought mine from Home Depot. Another note: my product came with only one white tube, though the instructions listed two. Mine was long enough to simply cut in half to use for both ends of the filter. Just be sure to use a sharp knife, scissors or snips to cut and avoid over-crimping the tube. I used the cut ends for inserting into the filter and it works just fine.

good water filter but low flow.
I bought this to replace a fancier version( Watts) from a plumbing store through a plumber. It was terrific with high flow like a regular faucet. I got rid of it because the filter became increasingly super expensive to replace. I hadn't realized how the flow would be so low on this one. I did not realize the term to look for was GPM, gallons per minute. Turns out mine was 2 gpm vs this one which is 0.5 gpm I believe. This one works fine and tastes fine. I think most people will need a plumber to install because it can be complicated even though I'm handy. I did not use the faucet that it came with but my existing dedicated water faucet. So if I had to buy one of these again I'd probably get the one with the highest GPM although that's only 0.7 gpm! For now I shall keep this one and use the time of waiting for my glass to fill as a mindful moment;)

So far ok, some surprises during installation
I can't say anything about long-term functioning since the filter only got installed a few days ago. I got it because of a Wirecutter recommendation. So far, it's doing its job. A few comments: 1) There is a battery in it that doesn't figure in any kind of description, neither the manual. I don't know what it's for. Pure mystery. 2) I live outside the US and the included connecting metal piece of the tube to the pipe doesn't fit. So a workaround was necessary to connect the filter. It was very time-consuming and difficult to find that particular piece. I recommend asking the fabricator about the exact measurements (I didn't have any idea about this problem beforehand) since I think it's not mentioned on Amazon. 3) In the manual it says “must replace housing every 5 years or risk property damage from leaks”. This was a surprise to me and is something to keep in mind when calculating the total cost of the system.

Do not waste your time and money like I did
Absolutely do not buy. Horrible customer service, will not honor warranty even though my filter broke in less than a year, leaking water everywhere, and they’re telling me they can’t send a new unit because they don’t make it anymore and they won’t refund me. Avoid at all costs. Extremely disappointed.

Should have done this years ago!
Ordered this after our 3rd Brita canister cracked. Install was easy enough that a bacon salesman (me) could be the install tech. Small, compact, and very solidly built system that now gives us great filtered water without the hassle of cracked canisters and refilling every day or so. Turn the tap and drink the water. The filters are easy to access and replace. Love it!
