Perfect
If you are at all interested in Toki Pona this book is a must. It is a wonderful combination of exercises and guides. Jan Sonja is brilliant and this book is very well written. As a dyslexic person, I appreciate the format/layout of the pages, the text isn't tiny and paragraphs have decent space between them. This book is comprehensive.

Learn it in days, use it for Life
Author and linguist Sonja Lang was struggling with depression, so she invented a simple and good language to think in simple and good ways, to quiet her mind and to help her heal (which it did!). Although minimalist by design, it is remarkably versatile in expressing the thought of daily life.I learned the whole vocabulary in five days, and after two weeks I was writing toki pona poetry, creating toki pona language art using sitelen pona (a simple hieroglyphic writing system) and generating beautiful Mayan-like non-linear toki pona glyphs that look like totem poles (search the web for 'sitelen sitelen toki pona' for this). Learning toki pona is easy. Thinking and speaking in Toki Pona is calming and enlightening. Facebook has some great Toki Pona groups to support your learning and expression, with thousands of group members. This excellent book will get you started - I highly recommend getting it and learning a new way to think and talk.'sina kama sona e toki pona la, sina lukin ante e ale!' ("If you learn Toki Pona you will see everything differently!") - jan Wiki

I bought the Kindle version of the book because I ...
I bought the Kindle version of the book because I am currently in Moscow, Russia, and the delivery to all my devices took just a few seconds, rather than weeks, if the book is delivered to Russia at all.The book is well-written and explains clearly everything you want to know about Toki Pona and, actually, learn the language. This pu book is a must for all Toki Pona learners and those just interested in the language constructed by jan Sonja, the author.Frankly speaking, I skipped the parts with quotations from religious sources. I am not religious at all and I don't think anyone will use Toki Pona to quote from the Bible or other sacred texts.

Useful in ways I did not expect
First off, I mainly bought this book because I wanted to learn different languages, and I figured a really tiny language would be a good place to start. I do wish there were far more examples to work with in each chapter but, since I don't plan on publicly speaking this, I'll manage. I bought the dictionary to supplement this. What I didn't realize when I bought the book was how useful it would be in dealing with my mental health. I have cptsd and disassociative identity disorder among other things. I've noticed that, when things get particularly stressful, it's hard to express how we're feeling, which is frustrating for both us and our partner. After starting to learn toki pona, it's been possible to describe what's going on mentally. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. The hieroglyphics section is useful to us to better visualize what each word means as we learn it.

I’m in shock
I’ve been watching YouTube videos for days and they’re helpful for learning words but it wasn’t totally clicking with me. As soon as I got this book and got to the lessons, I started to understand. If I’d had a book structured like this in high school, maybe I wouldn’t have failed both French and Spanish lol. A new language finally feels realistic for me.

I'm finally bilingual!
Over two years ago I bought this book. It took me a couple weeks to memorize every word. And then a couple months to become conversational. Since then I've made friends with hundreds of toki pona speakers across the world.I can finally scratch off "speak a second language!"

A simple language as a mental exercice-meditation
The mantra I have got from this book is: if there is no word to say something, or if it will take to many words to say it, maybe it is not worth saying or thinking.A pleasant mental yoga. Thinking or wriking in toki pona is a way I found to meditate actively. It is a must-have in any conlang lover (digital) shelf.

An impressive, intentionally simple language with religious undertones
This constructed language is unique in being very simple and easy to learn, with the same word carrying different meanings depending on the context. Using such a language can give a different perspective to life. However, I don't like the decision to use the symbol "Allah" for the word sewi, which has the meanings of "area above, highest part, something elevated; awe-inspiring, divine, sacred, supernatural". The word "Allah" carries Islamic connotations for most readers who know the word. Even if we consider Allah's official meaning in Arabic, which is "The God", it's biased by definition towards the existence of a God, and even further, a single God. I believe a good language should be neutral about religion. The "Texts" section features some comics, proverbs, famous quotations, and excerpts from Abrahamic religions (carefully chosen not to include the racist, homophobic, misogynistic, proslavery, transphobic, child marriage parts, or the parts that promise eternal hell to non-believers of that specific religion, and so on).I think religiosity had priority over inclusivity, at least in some decisions made, in the creation of this language, and book.

What's not to love about it?
If everyone spoke Toki Pona, there would be less war. This book is a representation of the author behind it, lovely, human, fragile and flawed (in a good way), as it should be. It gives a good basis for learning the language. However, you should search for online material too if you really want to go deeper.A language worth your time if you want to simplify life's problems.
