The Play of Words: Fun & Games for Language Lovers

We purchased this and other Richard Lederer books as a supplement to our Language Arts curriculum for homeschool. This particular title offers fun while learning a variety of skills and increases vocabulary. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves language or wants to enrich their knowledge of language.

The description for the condition of the book did not meet my expectations. It said there may be some writing, in fact, almost every single "word play" was completed! BOO! I didn't get to think for myself on this one. I think it would be a great book if anyone can find one with most of the activities still blank. There are lots of old sayings I never heard of, so it was interesting to see how words have been used in the past compared to phrases I use now.

I personally really liked this book! I got it as a gift for my boyfriend and I'm sure he would have rated it 5 stars. It has games, stories, definitions, root words, and history of so many common phrases and words. Totally worth every cent and a lot of fun.

If you like English & find yourself trying to help someone understand the English language (particularly American English), you will love the humor of "The Play of Words".You will find yourself laughing out loud & probably looking on Amazon for more of his hysterical musings about the English language.

I volunteer at an Adult Day Care for people with memory issues, and they love this book! This book is so interesting for both young and old.

I am a teacher and use these activities with my students and find it motivating and helps build vocabulary in an easy way.
