LIBRA 10" x 2-1/4" Trailer Hydraulic Free Backing Marine Brake Assembly Pair Set - 21016

These seem to be better quality than the OEM brakes that were replaced as everything appears to be stainless steel. The OEM had several non-stainless components that were severely corroded. I was just going to replace the shoes, but I'm glad I got the whole assembly. Hint: If you're like me and haven't done any work on drum brakes in years, (like 25 years) take a few minutes to reacquaint yourself with the process. At first I though they didn't fit because I had installed the brake line before putting the drum back on. I pushed in the brake cylinder, thinking it was fully compressed, like I would with a disk caliper but gravity was causing the brake fluid to fill cylinder just enough that by the time I picked up the drum it wouldn't go back on. Ha! took me a WHILE to figure out what was going on. Install the drum first - then the brake line. Hopefully that saves someone else a few headaches.

I liked that it was cheaper for me to purchase this assembly rather the just purchasing brake shoes .

I ordered a set of hydraulic brake assemblies. Description clearly states the set comes with a left and right hand assembly. I received two right hand assemblies. As my luck is never good I really needed the left hand assembly. Also the seal was damaged beyond repair and couldn't be used. I am currently trying to get replacements sent next day delivery by Libra and will update with the results. The product does appear good so that is a plus.

Work grease and installed perfect. Noticed when taking a turn I can hear the drum rubbing the backing plate. Rechecked the wheel bearings and no play. Drum did not hit the old backing plates, using same drums being I machined them for the new shoes .

Installed easily. No issues bleeding the brakes and came in handy when someone pulled in front of me at a traffic light.

What I received was not free backing brake assemblies.The picture shows the extra lever under the primary brake shoe and when I opened the boxes they did not have it.Without this extra lever you will not be able to back your trailer up without disengaging the lever on trailer tongue.Quality seems to look good but don't purchase this brake assembly as free backing because they are not.Returned for refund with no problems.thanks Amazon

Looks to be almost identical to the Dexter axle products that I usually use except for the price, fits perfectly and performs perfectly.

Fit well and good quality. Only negative is you’ll need 4 new bolts per side. Bolt holes are larger than 7/16” as well, so there is a slight amount of play if not using the proper press in Studs.
