I have never used a glaze before so I don’t have a comparison point but overall I did like this product. I used the smoked glaze and on the cabinets I used a regular latex paint over an oil based primer. I made my own chalk paint (latex paint mixed with a thick mixture or plaster of Paris) that i used on the table. If I could do it again i would have made my own chalk paint for the cabinets but not because of the glaze. I feel like it went on basically the same on both painted surfaces. I used a foam brush to apply it and it went on somewhat bubbly it also wasn’t as dark in the cracks as I was wanting so I used a thin brush to paint it into the creases. It took a little bit to figure out how to achieve the look I was going for but luckily it was easy to wipe up mistakes with a damp cloth and try again. I would recommend watching the video on this page for application tips. Overall, I’m very happy with this product. It also took an extremely long time to dry enough to clear coat without smearing.

Used this (smoked glaze) to refinish a dresser after I chalk painted it with Linen White of the same brand. I loved the final look! I used a brush to paint it on and a microfiber cloth to wipe it off after it sat for a minute or so. Two coats got it to the color I wanted. It turned the white look into a soft, textured gray that almost looks like stained wood. If I had done some careful removal, I could have made it look that way. One note though: the chalk paint will adhere to any surface and look great. The dresser I refinished was varnished but my husband roughly sanded off the finish before I went for it. On some of the drawers, the finish wasn't completely removed and while the chalk paint stuck fantastically, this glaze did not absorb the same way on those areas as it did on the rest of it. Because of the way I wiped it off and the look I was going for, it's barely noticeable, but I see it every time I look since I know it's there. So if you're gonna use the glaze, strip the wood of varnish completely.

This was my first attempt and had no issues. Came out great looking, realistic and a tough coat when paired with the matte topcoat. Texture is smooth very low odor and makes my normal 1 tone color just glow. Once dry it was very tough surface.
