Super comfortable
I have 2 sets of the Mares shorts & tops. They are perfect for snorkeling or diving in warm water areas. They are very lightweight so you can wear them under your wet suit with no issues. Very well made and the material air dries quickly.

definitive sizing guide
definitive sizingi am 5'9 160/165lbs. i consider myself to be a slim/athletic build. i ordered both the XL and XXL. the XL was too tight for comfort as it did more then cling to my body. it was like skin on skin and something i didn't want to wear. the XXL clung slightly but gave me the necessary give and wiggle room for the shirt to be worn outside the water w/o it bothering me.let me be clear here. this isn't a wet suit. it doesn't have the same material as wet suit. if you've ever worn a wet suit the material used produces a slimming effect and it feels good against the skin. the mares shirt is poly and nylon and if you're overweight and/or out of shape those materials don't make you look better if it's too tight. it makes you look like you're in an ill fitting shirt extenuating all your negatives.i implore everyone in my weight range to buy XXL. and if you're 175/180 go up to XXXL ..and if you're 200 buy the 4XL. you will thank me laterenclosed is a pic of me in the XXL. in this pic i have an undershirt on underneath it,but i have since tried it on w/o one and it's little difference. the mares shirt wants to cling and grab you.

Great for the purpose in the name . . .
. . . not so much for UPF. Look, it's a rash guard, and that's why I bought it. As for size, I'm 6' even, 180 pounds, and in great shape. A large t-shirt is a little loose on me. I bought a large rash guard, and it's snug and slightly stretched, but that's the way it's supposed to fit.Now for the UPF -- that was a bonus feature for me, but if it's your primary concern, the label information might be a surprise. First, let's review: a rash guard (1) should be skin tight (i.e., almost 100% in contact with your skin), (2) stretched across said skin, and (3) designed for use under water -- in other words, it's going to get wet, right? Here's a direct quote from the label: "The [UV] protection offered by this product may also be lessened: (1) At points where the fabric is in close contact with the skin such as across the shoulders (2) fabric is stretched (3) fabric is wet; and (4) with time dues to effects of normal wear."SO . . . if you buy your rash gaurd to fit very loosely, and don't get it wet, you should get all that UV protection.

Sizing is right on and the quality is perfect
I wear an extra large t-shirt and the extra large Mares rash guard fits perfectly. People that have stated in reviews that the sizing is way small don't realize what they are ordering. This is a rashguard not a t-shirt. A rash guard is supposed to fit like a second skin. If it fits loose, you will continue to get rashes. I used to get terrible rashes under my armpits when I wore my wetsuit for any long period of time in the water. I no longer get those rashes since I use this rash guard. The quality is great. The styling and look of the rash guard is spot on. If you're looking to find a t-shirt go somewhere else. If you're looking for a high-quality rash guard that will protect your body from rashes and chafing go no farther. This product delivers 100%. I paid for this product and was given any incentive to write this review. I wrote this review because I felt people needed to know what the product was and also the quality of it.

Excellent Quality
This is the 2nd piece I bought for my 10 yr old son. Previously from retail store. He is slightly below 5ft with a stout body and wears a small. Its reaches his lower hip and he likes it that way. He wore extra small previously, and wore out after a year of frequent wear. He swims in it at least twice a week so its a naturally wear and tear process. The material has a good stretch thus its easy for young boy to put it on and out. Its a comfortable material without being flimsy. Good sun protection too. I bought him several other rash guards ... Material was tougher and hard to put on and especially tough to remove when wet. Mares rash guard remains his favourite and am so glad to find them at amazon.I have also bought him the long sleeve for extra sun protection though he still prefers the short sleeve as it is easier for him to change in and out especially during swim lessons in school where changing time is limited. He wears the matching rash guard shorts.

What about the fit?
What most people have mentioned or concerned about is the fit. It should fit like second skin with no looseness, it is stretchable material for this reason. Example: I am male 5"9" 170lbs. average build (no beer belly) I bought a medium and it does fit very snug. At first I thought a little too snug, but remember when you get in the water you will not feel this. I also bought the Cressi medium they both seem to have the same fit and quality. I will purchase a large next time to see if it is still a snug fit or not.Update:I purchased the Mares XL I found this to have slightly better fit. Yeah, the medium is too snug, felt like a sausage in a natural casing. XL is perfect.

Size up!!!!!
Size up! Husband normally wears a large (5'11' and 190 lbs) 2xl would be the correct size in this product. It is meant to fit snug, but it appears the bigger sizes are just too scant on fabric! People buying medium or small appear to have less issues.

Excellent buy and a great fit!
I bought two rash guards for snorkeling in the Virgin Islands. Since I knew I'd be in the sun a lot I also bought one with long sleeves. The other one was from a different manufacturer and didn't fit nearly as well. A lot of people have commented on the fit. This fits snug in and out of the water, like a rash guard should. A tight fitting rash guard provides some warmth in the water and there's less friction as you move through the water. If you want a snug fit in the water then buy the size you usually get, but if you want a looser fitting shirt that will protect you from the sun out of the water buy a size larger. If you buy a looser shirt keep in mind that the looser shirt won't be as comfortable in the water.

Great value for a snorkelling shirt
Great value for a snorkelling shirt. I purchased this for my son to go on a cruise and was really glad to have been able to find it off season, and at a good price. I love Amazon!

The item doesn't appear to be a legitimate Mares top ...
The item doesn't appear to be a legitimate Mares top. I own a few myself and purchased this for my son. The collar is stitched incorrectly so that the two layers of fabric sewn together jut out from the collar instead of laying flat. This is not something that Mares would send out into the world. I believe this shirt to be a knock off.
