Names...
I have no idea if this book is any good. In fact I don't know if the author is any good. What I do know is that when visiting my aunt-in-law for Thanksgiving, I found out that my wife's name came from this book. So I ordered it and gave it to my wife for Christmas. Now she can read the book and see how/why her aunt wanted her to have that name when she was born.

Classic and wonderful story on so many levels!
I've read this book 3 times over the last 3 decades -- the first time in about 1990 and last time just now. I keep coming back to it because of its themes centered around clashes between cultures and religions and its balanced but ultimately condemning assessment of British rule (the Raj) in India and its attendant prejudices, bigotry, egregious behaviors and foolish decisions based on utter ignorance. Plenty of food for thought, for those who like to pause and ponder as they go, and historically accurate (the fictional story is interwoven into historical events and real people). And the key thread woven throughout is the tale of forbidden love between an unloved and unwanted princess, Anjuli, and Ash / Ashok, the unEnglish Englishman (angrezi) who had always loved her since he was a a little English boy orphaned in Indian back country and adopted by a kind Hindu widow, though Ash didn't realize his feelings for Anjuli until he was a grown man returning to India, which was home --yet not home any longer... A long book and a memorable & great read -- it's one of those books that you don't want to end!

Outstanding Fiction
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I recommend in the strongest terms possible M.M. Kay's books - all of them, although The Far Pavilions is her best.

This book transported me to another time and place
I originally listened to this on Audible and it quickly became one of my all time favorite books. I could get lost in this epic story time and time again.

Long but worthwhile
I think this is her best book, tho the others are good. Just wish it wasn't so huge that it's hard to keep the binding in place. Excellent story.

The Far Pavillions
I bought this book because I wanted to read it again. Had read it years ago. I went to the local library to check it out. It had been checked out several years ago and never returned. So when I found it on Amazon I ordered it and when I'm finished with it I will donate it to our library. Thank you for having an amazing book available and in pristine condition.

The book is a bit fragile in condition, but considering it's been out of print for sometime, somewhat expected. Arrived on time, no issues. Would use again.

Poor condition
I am disgruntled that the book was in a poor condition. In my opinion it did match the condition described.

Kein guter Kauf
Entspricht nicht der Abbildung, Artikel zerlesen, schmutzig und stark vergilbt. Was soll man dazu noch sagen? Einfach nicht zu gebrauchen !

Still Relevant!
Classic tale and interesting how the current Afghanistan situation mirrors the past.
