The Complete Book of Alternate Tunings (The Complete Guitar Player Series)

This book has interesting tunings, but I thought it would include a song to play in each tuning. I found it disappointing that it doesn’t. Therefore, I am giving it four stars instead of five. There is no way to guide the player in how to use the tunings because there are no songs.

Like another reviewer suggested, take enough food and water for a few days and lock the door behind you! Oh yeah, make sure you have a few sets of strings too. This book will keep you busy/amused for months! This is a great intro to the world of alternate tunings. I know a lot of guitar players tend to shy away from alternate tunings, but they are really missing out on the amazing things that can be done. This book will give you the basics. It's up to your fingers and ears to figure out the rest. I used to be amazed when my guitar teacher would throw his guitar into another tuning without a tuner. Now I know how he does it! Don't be afraid to explore other tunings. The guitar is such an amazing instrument and this book helps open up other worlds that you don't want to miss out on. It's a lot of fun and it's pretty good ear training too!

I had this book a long, long time ago and decided to re-buy it so it can be a reference book in my library. It is thorough, detailed and extremely helpful. If you are looking for a great reference book to offer ideas and/or suggestions then this is the one for you. I am so glad I re-bought this book and now have it on my shelf to look at whenever I want.

I found this book to be quite helpful and easy to read, although a little pricey.

This is a great reference to have open on the table in your music room.

Having no prior knowledge of alternate tunings outside of knowing the name and that the strings were tuned to different notes, this book was extremely helpful. It walked me right through the concepts, provided some chords in the new tunings, etc. I'm beginning to study chord structure, and well, it fits in with this book.

This book is a literal encyclopedia for alternate tunings. It contains several of the most odd types Ive seen. Page after page of different types of tunings. It also has a list of what bands have been known to use which tunings. Since new tunings are always being created by artists, the book will probably never be complete as the author states. But this one is as close as it gets!

I've only scratched the surface with this book but it covers all the major alternate tunings in depth. Well worth it.

This is a very useful book to have for any guitarist interested in exploring the world of alternate tunings. Set out clearly and musically structured, it guides the reader through the wierd and wonderful world of different guitar tunings. Would certainly recommend.
