Claudio is herself an accomplished scholar who writes in a friendly style about her own publications and experiences with students. This book is full of helpful advice drawn from Claudio's experiences working with colleagues and graduate students over the years. It includes worksheets and examples that will coax even the most reluctant writer out of the shadows. A few details, like the fact that research is almost always collaborative, do not tell the whole story for fields other than biomedical research. But those points are minor. Overall, Claudio has shared insights for a successful career in science that will empower a new generation of scholars who might not otherwise feel so welcome in the research lab.

Dr. Luz Claudio has dedicated her work to supporting vulnerable communities and underrepresented students and faculty. This book is a fundamental guide to getting the writing done, effectively and systematically. It is a much needed resource; I can't wait for the accompanying online course; will definitely motivate me to get all of my manuscripts ready.

This is a very helpful book for those who are just starting to think about writing a paper to publish in a peer-reviewed journal. The step-by-step guide breaks down the entire writing and publishing process into achievable steps, which is also helpful in keeping track of your progress. If you're thinking about publishing your work but not sure where to start, I recommend getting this book as your guidance.

I purchased the Kindle edition. The book contains useful information and provides examples of many forms to help learners start the writing process. The heart of her book are the forms. The problem is that you need to go to Dr. Claudio's website if you want to get a copy of the forms. Once you're on her website you eventually find a data entry form which if you fill out I guess you receive access to the material that she promises in her book. Well, I hate to say it but I've gotten no response or link to access her forms. The follow-through has been a big disappointment.

This is more like a workbook rather than a book, which is different to others that we have in our library. It has great exercises to follow, so it could easily be the basis for a course or a lecture series. I have a group of students who are doing a workshop over the summer, so I plan to use this workbook for the course. I like that it goes straight to explain what you need to do and shows you how to do it with examples and exercises rather than giving a lot of theory. So it is great for students as part of a curriculum. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs to teach students how to write their research.Well, I am compelled to update my review. We used this and two other books for a short course during the summer. I confess that we hardly used the other two books. This was definitely the best reference. The other two books were too wordy and included a lot of information that was too basic for our smart graduate students. This workbook was a much better choice for use as a textbook for the course. We used the fillable forms for classroom exercises. Once each student filled their own forms, we discussed them as a group. Truly a very practical way to learn. At the end of the course, four students were able to submit their papers and the others are in process. Not bad for a class of 10 students. We intend to do this again next semester and recommend all of our students to get this book.

Highly recommended!

A practical "hands-on" guide that should be read by all who publish scientific articles. The book and its support helped me a lot to bring my own articles to a new level. It is written understandable and the hints are easy to implement.
