I haven't yet use it in anger or travelled with it, but for the money I have paid for this item I am already very pleased with my choice. I think it is balanced about right between weight and flimsiness - i.e. the lighter you go the less rigid and more susceptible the tripod is to the weight of the camera. The travel case is a useful addition. I like the locking system for the quick release plate on the ball head, however, it takes practice to work the mechanism and may be too fiddly to do with gloves on in cold weather. Once I have travelled with this and lugged it through airport and then to photo sites I will be better placed to comment on its full practicality but as it stands now I believe this is a sound purchase with the potential to satisfy all of my needs. Maybe 5 stars after functional testing.I can now add that this is a great tripod - its quick and easy to set up and the detachable plate to the ball head is brilliant for fast moving between tripod and hand held use of the camera. Its very stable and extra weight can be added to the hook to improve stability in windy conditions. The ball head is excellent and easy to use and set. I had a very challenging photo session at the Grand Canyon as light changed by the second and I was able confidently and quickly shift the camera from portrait to landscape aspects very quickly and confidently - so I did miss some of the spectacular shots as a massive thunder storm approached. Well, I'm impressed. It appears solid. I bought this tripod because of the reviews I read and because I couldn't get within a flying fart of the bids on ebay for the likes of Manfrotto, Slik or Velbon :-)This tripod, for the money, is not far off the above mentioned tripods (lower end priced one's that is). I have previously owned a Velbon - didn't like, a Manfrotto 055 - did like. But at lower extensions of the legs this Hama tripod is very much on a par with the 'well known' brands. I have tried the 'tip' test with my 80mm scope attached and it's pretty darned good in comparison. Extended to full height it's a wee bit wobbly, but for £35 for a travel tripod, I should have no complaints.I'm not sure about the ball-head yet, as I've never really used one before. But I've noticed Amazon are flogging Velbon fluid heads for £21ish anyhoo. So if I can't get on with this ball thing, I'll get one of those.This tripod for the money on first impressions represents excellent value for money. Most parts seem to be well engineered, the locks work, it's sturdy lower down and I like the fact it doesn't weigh a lot and with a 'bungee' carry strap will not (probably) put me off the yomp to Blakeney point :-)Will update in a while, when it's been properly field tested. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Only has 3 legs... *by A***A on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2013* Like most photographers, our gear is important to us, we handle them carefully most of the time taking steps to ensure our equipment stays in one piece. So it makes sense to buy a good tripod that wont fall over easily.I own a Manfrotto 190 something or other, which does everything a good tripod should do, but it is so cumbersome, after carrying it around for an hour you soon know its there, so i decided a while ago to buy a new tripod, something a bit more lightweight.It wasn't until 3 weeks ago when i bought a new Leica that i decided now would be a good time to get another tripod, so i had a good look around and this Hama one kept popping up. The reviews here are positive, and i watched a couple of videos on youtube reviewing it before i ordered one.Eventually i did, and it arrived this afternoon. First thing i noticed was its weight, it probably weighs half of what the Manfrotto does, if not more.Extending the legs fully gives a great working height, which surprised me by being higher than the Manfrotto, even with the neck tucked in and not extended, so its got the height i need. It actually feels quite sturdy, seeing as its constructed of lightweight materials, it feels rather solid, as does the ball head, which is a joy to operate. But lets be real about this, it is by no means a solid construction, there is noticeable movement even with the tripod legs un-extended, there is a little bit of wobble, but unless you are using exposures longer than a second, you probably wont care very much.I only plan to use my Leica V-Lux 3 with this, not my Canon DSLR's and bulky lenses, though i am sure it could easily handle them as well as my smaller Leica.I highly recommend this tripod to anyone who wants a go anywhere, flexible but fairly sturdy tripod.
