Simple, but effective stories for character building.

I got this for our homeschool character building discussions, but my children are early elementary. While they mostly understand the stories, they do not understand the nuances and can't really answer the question prompts. All of the stories feature middle-school aged children and middle-school aged situations. I wish this was stated in the description. Will probably use when my kids are older.

I love using this book in my self contained 4th/5th grade special Ed class. Social Emotional lessons are SO incredibly important in education...we don't spend enough time in this area!

My daughter (5 year old approaching 6) and I really enjoyed reading this book together! We typically read 1 theme (about 5 stories) per night right before bed. The length of the stories is great -- just enough for her to get the message and not lose her attention! A few questions posted at the end of each story is awesome discussion point for me to get a good sense of how much she understand the story and her inner thoughts about the topic. As a result, we had some really good discussion on some of the topics. Most of the stories are written in a very practical way... they happen in our real life all the time, which is really easy for my daughter to relate to and stay engaged. it's one of the fun character books we have read for sure!

For my kids

Not sure if all moms feel this way, but the character and compassion of American children is fading fast in our growing kid-focused culture. It sounds like an oxymoron, but we parents focus so much on meeting our children's needs that we neglect to challenge their character by reminding them and teaching them how to care for the needs of others. This book provides great insight into situations children face today and how to manage through them with kindness, courage and concern for others. I believe this book was written for children 8 and older but my 5 year old is picking up some of the teachings and it is challenging him to think in new and different ways. I feel it's never too early to start building character in your child. If you wait too long it could be too late! :(

Each short story has questions at the end that my students were able to "turn and talk" and discuss. I really like this part because students can really learn a lot from each other. There are several short stories per character trait. Some stories are more interesting and relevant than others however. The stories are almost "too" short in some instances. I felt my students could have benefitted more from stories that included better endings. But I love the purpose of this book and that allows me to have a "read aloud" that may teach my students something important about good character.

A great way to quickly infuse character eduction into your general education of guidance classes. The discussion questions are short and help to grasp the concepts of character. The book could use a few recommendations to make this an amazing book however:1. Sort the stories by developmentally appropriate grade levels2. Consolidate the stories to fit within the main character traits (align to Character Counts) as opposed to having so many3. Add a summary picture (for younger students)

Been using this for my classes in mosque i teach at as there's good stories in this book to hopefully create great personalities. Been buying on my hubbys account.

An excellent book but took a really long time to arrive.
