Original Sin Companion

Great supplementary collection of this Original Sin crossover event.
Had this sitting on my OHC shelf unread for about four years, laugh. Finished Original Sin and moved on to this to wrap it up. Some great stories and art to be had. Of the collection I liked Spider-Man meeting Silk, Thor and Loki heading to Heven to collect Angela, and the weird and wild time spanning Avengers yarn at the end... as Cap said, shades of H. G. Wells. Construction and binding were very good as was the paper quality. Recommended! (j4.)

A massive collection with mostly very good material
I enjoyed the murder mystery of the Original Sin event, but it was the consequences of the secret revelations that I was most eager for. This Companion is huge – nearly 1000 pages and has stories across a dozen+ different series. As is usually the case with such a large collection, some stories were excellent, some mediocre and some…ugh. One issue I had with the entire volume was that though the secrets caused fights/discord, it was usually resolved when the “whole story” came out. When Orb detonates the Watcher’s eye, secrets are revealed to everyone but most only get the beginning of the memory. I felt this was a bit of a copout, but not so much that I didn’t enjoy the stories.I think the best stories were the ones that didn’t involve the main Avengers team: like Deadpool, Nova and Blade/Luke Cage/Blue Marvel. These tales had consequences that were not immediately resolved and big emotional stakes. Daredevil was especially good for once again showing him using strategy over his "powers." Even heroes I wasn’t familiar with, like Radiance, had good stories that kept me engaged. Of the core group - Thor’s tale was the best. It introduced a new Realm and had revelations concerning Angela. And any tale with Loki is always entertaining! The rest of the best known heroes were meh. The reading of Xavier’s will was hugely anticlimactic – Xavier is dead, but still had a “sin” to reveal. The X-Men bicker about it. Cap’s secret tied directly into the Avengers’ Incursion arc, which I thought horrifically boring and his time travel road trip didn't change that. Hickman takes technobabble to a whole new level. Bruce and Tony’s sin amounted to a weak retcon. Not bad stories, just not equal to the heroes involved.Overall, this is a solid collection with some real gems and just a few clunkers. It’s an excellent value for the price considering the sheer amount of material (most of it very good) and the gorgeous production - sewn binding, full color wrap-around covers and dust jacket. Highly recommended.

Secrets Revealed about All the Marvel Heroes
Collecting: Avengers #29-34-- Deadpool #29-34-- Mighty Avengers #10-12-- All-New Invaders #6-7-- Nova #18-20-- Original Sin #3.1-3.4-- Original Sin #5.1-5.5-- Fantastic Four #6-8-- Daredevil #6-7-- Amazing Spider-Man #4-6-- Uncanny X-Men #23-25-- Guardians of the Galaxy #18-20As the companion for the Original Sin main event, this volume is only barely comprehensible even if you've read the main event. In the main event an all seeing being called the Watcher is murdered, and the killer has gruesomely stolen the Watcher's eyeball. The eyeball contains all secrets the Watcher witnessed over the years. When the eyeball explodes, all of Marvel's secret pasts and most hidden deeds come pouring out. That outpouring of secrets is the thread that holds this collection together. In fact, other than the moments of secret revelation, the issues collected here do not really fit together particularly closely. That said there are still a number of reasons that I bought and enjoy this collection. Each Original Sin tie-in is well done--it is a case of the parts of the Companion being better than the whole. There is a lot to recommend about each of the collected story arcs. Some of the secrets develop the backstory of favorite characters in new and exciting ways. The completionist in me, really appreciates tying together all the Original Sin companion issues in a single omnibus. Tracking down and figuring out a reading order for over a dozen trade paperbacks would be difficult, and it would ultimately be more expensive that collecting them all here in one place. Finally, Marvel's recent omnibus publications are just amazingly well constructed. The pages are thick and glossy with impressive boards and sold binding. These collections have a permanence and presence that endures better than that of the original comic book format. If you read the main Original Sin event, I think you'll enjoy the companion as well.

Great story
Original sin companion is a great story with awesome artwork. The companion is about 3 times bigger than the main Original Sin hardcover. Read this book 2 times and love it. No issues with the binding or the pages. Pages quality is the same as other hardcover/omnibus put out by Marvel. Got the book in great condition with no nicks or dents.

Oh its big and exciting
Its huge - loads to read and when you have read it it makes you want to read more comics and spend more money. You don't need it to follow your collection but its a fun read to see what else happened. And if you don't have much money to spend - Don't get it otherwise you will end up spending several hundred of pounds getting different comics to follow up on their adventures. But if your a collector or have money to throw away 100% get it.

Better than the main title
Where the original sin collected the main story this is where is tells of the splintered affect and explains origins of the next title Spiderverse. Well worth the cash if you can get it at discount price like I did.
