Are these solenoids made in mexico or usa? i ask, because the threads are different.

i recently replaced one that was broken on my system. The broken one (prob 20 years old) was made in the usa, but the replacement that I bought from ACE was made in mexico. I'd imagine this one was also made in mexico.

How do I tell if it is bad?

if you have 24v at the solenoid, and it does not open the valve the solenoid is bad

how wide are the threads? I need a 3/4 inch diameter

Rain Bird makes a replacement solenoid that is a 3/4" male thread.

Are these waterproof or do they need a cover? My old solenoid had a thread on top that held a cover on.

I wouldn't say waterproof, but mine were exposed and got wet often, but they lasted a long time before needing to be replaced.
